Animation quality

Looks really poor to me. I know they're independent and all, but that's like 1999 TV ad quality. Is the trailer misleading or does it actually look that bad?

Its brutal. Looks like they're trying to make as much money as possible from the target audience with minimal costs

I am a student animator...I'm a fairly average one at that (I'm more live-action, but I dabble quite a bit) and I could make a better looking movie than that. This is only slightly better then On Gaither Pond. The texturing is abhorrent and I couldn't even believe the burning bush. How did they get Ben Kingsley to do this?

reply

Ye this looks like a really big joke.

looks lyk Sims on ps3

I just started to watch this trailer and cringed! The animation looked terrible. I had to 'imdb' it to see the credits, thinking that they'd used some 3rd party outsource art house to do the art work. From the credits for "Visual Effects" it does appear that they went on the cheap for this one. And how would the actors know? They record the voice before they animate the avatars. This one would do better going straight to video or being donated directly to the church so that they could at least use it as a tax write-off.

Maybe they should have hired the Veggie Tales animation team. That would be a great improvement.

so true....I mean, Big Idea is no Pixar but they have a better sense of style and quality than that! plus they are one of te few biblical based animation studios

How did they get Ben Kingsley to do this?

Money?

reply

Kingsly was also in Thunderbirds. Again, WHY?

reply

Based on the trailer, the animation looks impossibly bad.

reply

christian slater is lucky to be in this.

reply

So true.

I just saw the trailer and thought it's some sort of joke, or hoax, but I see it's genuine... There were computer games 8 years ago with similar or better animation.
A hint to the makers: there are so many good versions of this story already on
film.. so if you want to make money, please do it a little less obvious..

reply

Hahaha! I did the same thing! I just saw the trailer and had to see what other people thought. The animation was laughable!

reply

Typical Christian product, still living years behinds its time.

reply

The animation looks gross. Too colorful and the people's skin looks like it was molded and baked from vomit. Literally.

Why would any kid enjoy this when a superior animated fiilm is the Prince of Egypt? I saw the trailer for this and was totally taken back. No wonder they show Moses's backside on the cover

reply

Yes, the animation quality is not up to the level of new big-budget productions from the likes of Pixar or Dreamworks, but it may be worth noting that it was never intended to be - originally this was going to be a straight-to-DVD production, but gained in popularity enough that it was changed to be a feature film. As a consequence, a lot of the pre-production was not expected to have to be at feature film quality, so when judged in comparison with those much bigger productions, of course it won't really stand up - it was never intended to.

Also, it is the first full-length movie worked on by Huhu Studios, who previously had only done TV series, so could rightly be called a small fish in a big pond.

Interesting piece of trivia in passing - apparently it is actually the first full-length computer animated feature film to be made in New Zealand.

My hope is that later movies will get better.

Disclaimer: I worked with Huhu Studios on this movie, but only to a small degree (IT Support), and I have nothing to do with the marketing side, so the above is entirely my own opinion.

Terrible, terrible quality for a feature. Downright embarrassing. It looks like it was done on (and with a minimal knowledge of) a very old version of basic POSER. At first, I thought it was just showing us the first pass on the animation ... but then it became apparent that this was the final animation ... whew. It blows.

reply

Not only is the modeling and animation horrible, but a far superior (and need I remind, 2-dimensional) version of this was made ten years ago... a little movie called 'The Prince of Egypt.' They should have let this dog lie with the 1956 classic.
