I want the DVD!

Where is it? Why won't they put it out there? Heck, I've seen DVDs for movies that were still in the theaters.

There are lots of assorted reasons why DVDs get extremely delayed...

Light demand anticipated, so more (presumed) profitable DVDs get made first.

The movie THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE was apparently held up for the large marble(?)sculpture in the background near the end of the movie, that was CGI'ed to moving figures. The work of art was copyrighted, and the owner wanted money, and/or acknowledgement that it was in no other way connected to the theme of the movie. There were DVD and laserdisc versions already 'pressed' before that issue came up, and their packaging, (in the USA at least), was changed to include a disclaimer, and later versions of the movie had a CGI version resembling the sculpture that appeared, but was not the actual sculpture, and the disclaimer was not included on the packaging. (FYI, I'm not sure what was in the Blu-Ray release of that movie...)

The movie VALLEY GIRL was delayed for years over the music rights, so the copyright owners would get paid from the DVD, and there were a lot of different rights owners due to the variety of music, and all of them had to agree to their payment.

One entire season of the TV series CHARMED went down to the final cut-off date to 'press' the DVD season and the music rights owners wanted more than the studio was going to agree to pay. Anticipating this, the studio created a version of that season with the music replaced, in its entirety, for the season. As the story goes, the music rights owners knew when the final date for the DVD set was, and held out for their price until that day. OOPS! They didn't know about the studio's version with new music, and held out too long... even with their abrupt price reduction, it was too late, and the season went to DVD without their music, so they had held out for $ZERO... too greedy I guess, or too many rights owners to decide quickly enough.
Sometimes music is left out of the movie soundtracks... For instance, the movie soundtrack for FLASHDANCE does not include "Gloria" by Laura Brannigan.

I know, I know, TMI (Too Much Information).

Anyway...
