Who thought Amy wetting herself was disturbing?

The scene of her being beaten up was bad enough, but what was the point of showing her peeing herself. Was is just to make it look realistic? I had no problems with this but my girlfriend was quite disturbed by it.

reply

I felt it showed the realism of violence by detailing its effects on the woman. I really liked it.

reply

It's supposed to be disturbing. That's kind of the point.

Witty closing remarks have been replaced by massive head trauma and severe hemorrhaging.

reply

I think the reason she was peeing, she was dying and at that point, you loose control of everything. It was disturbing to say the least, but she played the part good!! I love Casey, he is one good actor!!

reply

Yes I was very disturbed after he beat her. seeing her twitch and moan. and than she wet herself. :/

Despite that it was shocking and (almost?) darkly humorous when she walked thru the door and he punched her during midsentence. I was like wtf?? :/ my jaw was on the floor during that whole scene.

it shows what a real putz he is to cover up her face because he can't look at her after beating her to a pulp.

~I love the rhythm it is my methoood!~

reply

He covered up her face to make it appear more like an attempted rape. But yes, everything about this was disturbing.

reply

How the police know it is someone who is close to the victim who did the killing is usually because they cover the face so as not to have the guilt feelings.

true, I used to work at an oap home

EVERYTHING in this movie was disturbing. This is one movie that I wish I had never seen. There was not one redeeming quality.

reply

Yeah, I can't see the point or benefit in seeing a movie like this. I felt violated after I watched Irreversible. It's terrible *beep* like this happens, yet it's glorified on the screen and for profit. And usually there is no justice. Just men acting like devils and women falling victim.

We need more movies like I Spit on Your Grave, where women suffer terribly, but at least get to exact revenge. Rape and violence towards women is used way too much as a plot point and it really just sickens me, but if it does happen, I'd like to see a woman win for once. Christ.

reply

True...But if your intent is to show a more realistic slice of the horror of a killers life and actions then this really di the job. What really struck me about this movie was the contrasts. The killer from all outword appearences seemed like just a really nice guy who you'd feel comfortable around most anytime, but then he occassionally became this extremely violent monster you never guessed was there....Very strange and effective.....

The person who stated that losing control of the bladder and bowels is what happens right before death is the point.

He sat back and waited to see the effect so that he knew she was dying.

Very disturbing movie.

reply

I watched this last night and I feel the same way. I wish I had never watched it. The beatings were brutal and why exactly? Ugh sorry to have seen it.

reply

A very upsetting movie. We are getting the details of Amy's death throes. That is not something we usually see -- and in this film the women don't die easily, even though somehow Jessica Alba's character survives, at least for a while. It sounded like Amy couldn't catch her breath, either because of broken ribs jutting into lungs or that her diaphragm went into spasm. It was a pitiful thing to witness. All the principals did an excellent job. I admire the art, but I'll never be able to watch the film again.

The point of the pool of urine was so that something would slip Lou up, letting the blackmailing stranger escape, leading to that very public assassination.

As to the brutality, it places one very much looking through Lou's eyes, and many can't bear this unflinching perspective. Those who can't, congratulations - you're human.

What I wonder is how did she die from being spit in the face and punched once in the stomach?

i think the Lakeland beating was pretty gratuitous. It may have been one of the worst things i have ever seen. The bottle beating in Pan's Labryinth and the fire extinguisher bashing in Irreversible were vicious as well. The ending was silly, but everything up and to that point was good. It was almost reminiscent of American Psycho, in that he got away with it, and the hospital and continuation at the home was his conscious mind fighting to save him from his obvious sociopathic-masochist tendencies. More of the memories of his childhood kept coming to the forefront and he balanced that with literature and formulas and music to maintain his focus.

This was a nightmare...do not watch it with women, as they wouldnt have anything to do with you for such a disgusting rental.

She was peeing due to the punches and the pain. Plus she was slowly dying. Chances are that he broke her ribs and a rib may have punctured a lunch or intestine. As she was gasping for air. I'm sure the kicks didn't help either. She basically lost control of her bladder.

Yes, you can die from punches and kicks if you are hit in certain areas. It's not uncommon, especially if it's a woman getting hit by a much stronger man.

The movie followed the book almost straight down the line. I think there have been a few incorrect interpretations on what was going on. No, it wasn't the mom that molested Lou. It was a babysitter. The same babysitter that was playing kinky sex games with Lou's dad, who was a doctor. I don't remember there only being one or two punches to the stomach. As I recall, there was kicking going on as well. No matter. Lou's father was a doctor. He often read his father's books. He was aware of human anatomy and critical areas of the body. Why did she wet herself (which I agree was disturbing but not really the single most disturbing part of the movie)? Most likely the loss of bladder control as well as agonal breathing was signaling the imminent death of the young lady.

They did a good job on the movie (except the really bad special effects) on the movie as far as a treatment of the book goes. I didn't really care for the book though.

reply

Yea it was a weird scene. He only punched her twice in the midsection. So I don't know how it caused that much damage. Of course the kicks on the ground would do enough damage.

Have you never seen a boxing match where a boxer in perfect physical condition was knocked to the ground by a punch to the liver? If body punches can do that to a male athlete, imagine what they could do to a slightly built woman.

reply

Knocked to the ground by one punch to the liver? No. They take a beating on the stomach, kidney's,etc and still can somewhat stand. After taking multiple punches then you're done.

Of course he had perfect form and she was small. So she could be taken pretty easily.

So a man brutally beats two women to death with his bare hands, a mother was sexually molesting her prepubescent son in a sadomasochistic manner, and a boy raped a little girl.......but the peeing is what bothered you?

You need to get your priorities in order.

She wet herself while agonizing after being brutally battered. That's *beep* disturbing. You forgot to include that detail in your sarcasm-ridden question.
