what was it that she wanted him to discuss with his brothers? at one point, kid told her he has mentioned "it" to boy, but not son. i don't remember him discussing them getting married until after that. and why would kid need to run that by his brothers anyway? so was it something else?

Son functioned as both brother and father figure, so it would be quite natural for Kid to want Son's counsel on marriage. The scene where Kid and Son are in
the back yard talking about it is one of my favorite. Kid is worried about being faithful for a lifetime, Son's advise is to choose the one to love and just love her. Pretty good advice, not followed often enough, movies can give advice on
how to live and the best ones do. That is what makes a film truly classic in my opinion.
