I actually preferred playing Nero to playing Dante.

The whole game I was thinking "Man, I hope I get to play with Dante soon." But I started playing with Nero and enjoyed his arm immensely, and when I finally got to Dante, I was excited at first, but then I was just kinda bored. All I ever really did was the sting move, over and over again, and then when I realized that it would basically be the first half of the game backwards, I just stopped playing.

I felt the same way. I didn't level myself up well the first time I played it so I started over and I did much better in the game. When I first got Dante again, I felt the same way, but I got so used to playing with Gilgamesh with Dante that when I didn't have it anymore once I started playing with Nero again, I was a little out of sorts. But I beat the game today and I am happy with that. My goal is to play the Bloody Palace, but I have to play the game on Devil Hunter mode.

I find that Dante has too many moves, I prefer the more restricted Nero

I kept changing my mind. Once I got to grips with Nero, I felt a little rusty adjusting to Dante's box of tricks. Then after I eventually switched back, I missed Dante's moveset. But it didn't take long to enjoy Nero again.
