They got the look completely wrong

On the cartoon Alvin et al didn't actually LOOK like chipmunks, in the Chipmunk Adventure and the late 80s/ early 90s episodes, they just made them look near-human. It just wasn't a concern for them to look like ACTUAL chipmunks. It was fine that they looked like little people and the audience just accepted it. The A & the C's movie has them look like grotesque rodents and their size isn't to scale as it was in the show which had them human-sized. This looks like Honey I Shrunk the Chipmunks.

i'm not a fan of this movie; but face it, if they made then 'near human looking' but still have rodent faces (yeah! take another look at the cartoon... creepy) and then have the added plus of them being human sized... urgh *shudders* those cgi mutant freak would haunt my nightmares...

As much as i didn't like Jason Lee in this movie (or the movie itself for that matter) i DID like how they animated the chipmunks.

We've come to the conclusion that The Bird is greater than or equal to The Word.

It was nescessary to "update" their look for the movie......just as the 1980's cartoon updated the chipmunks' appearance from the 1960's.

Personally, I really like what they accomplished with the "00's" chipmunks. They modernized them and made them relevant again for this generation.

And at the end of this movie, during the end credits, when they give the dedication to Ross Bagdasarian and give a history of the chipmunk albums.....nice touch.

I really appreciated all the little easter eggs about Ross Sr.

I really prefer the look of the CGI chipmunks to the more anthropomorphic 'Munks in the cartoons. When I was a kid, I saw one season of The Chipmunks in which they added irises, which really freaked me out for some reason. So I suppose that's why I prefer they lean towards real chipmunks instead of humans.
