That Accent!
Forgetting all of the other aspects of the movie that deserve critique, I really had a problem with Louisa's (Ivana Baquero's) obvious Spanish accent. At first I thought it would be explained - like, maybe the mother was from elsewhere, and the kids had lived with her in said country long enough for the older child to acquire the accent. But nothing or the sort. And if this wasn't bad bough, they even had the plot point of Louisa telling the a her that she was adopted, and Kevin Costner saying, no, she just looks like her mom. What a tease! If this had been a movie taking place in another country, fine. But this was supposed to be South Carolina! You can't just expect the viewers to ignore this blatant inconsistency.
