Not sure how close to the end you meant, so here goes...his daughter decides to move into her dad's house since she can't take care of herself because of the accident and he just had a heart attack. She learns from his friend that most of what her mom had told her about her dad was untrue. He tried really hard to have a relationship with her, but the mom wouldn't allow it and poisoned her daughter and then her granddaughter against him. For example, the mom told her daughter that he refused to help pay for college, when in fact, he paid for all of her education, and even snuck into the ceremony to watch her graduate, which she never knew. She has a complete change of heart and decides to stay with him so they can get to know each other again. Very sweet ending.
