Really, Sverker? Arn using archers against you came as a complete surprise?

Even though arrow barrages formed the standard 'artillery' of your day and age... a method of attack that any military commander with half a brain would consistently use in battle? Even though you saw an extra section of Norwegian bowmen jog up in front at the very last moment? Even though one of them even launched a range finding arrow in front of your feet, to mark the exact spot where they were to start shooting?

Seriously... WTF?!?



Also, how is it that Arn got gutted during the battle and rode the whole way home without asking anybody for help or even bothering to try to slow the bleeding himself? I know that stomach wounds were pretty much a death sentence back then... but him going the whole way home like that without anyone even noticing seems like such a cop out.


I haven't read the book, so I'll just go ahead and assume that Guillou didn't write Arn's death quite like that.
