Very confused about what this movie is *SPOILERS*

** possible spoilers **

I haven't seen this movie, but can someone help with my confusion please:

I've just watched "Arn: The Knight Templar". I liked the movie so was obviously intrigued to find that there is a sequal. However, my first thought is "How can there possibly be a sequal starring the same guy as the same character, when he dies at the end of the first movie?"

So I decided to try to research what the story is about... and do it without giving away what happens too much (not an easy task).

Everything I read about "Arn: The Kingdom at Road's End" outlines a plot that seems to me to be the second half of the movie that I have just seen (i.e. Arn has served his penance and is about to return home to be with his beloved, big battles, blah blah blah).

Now... Am I going crazy? I definitely only saw one film. The running time was roughly what Youtube says is the running time for "Arn: The Knight Templar", (i.e. a little over two and a half hours). It does not finish with Arn stuck in the Holy Land still not reunited with his love. That has all happened, they've had their final battle and he has died.

Did someone combine these two movies into one and edit out half of the story?

As I say, I'm most confused right now.

edit: I've researched this on Wikipedia as well as IMDB. Here are the two pages:

If you read the plot summary for The Knight Templar, you will see that the second part is pretty much the same as the summary for The Kingdom at Road's End. However, in the version I saw there was no mention of him having a daughter or spending a long time building an estate.

If there were two films combined into one shortened version, I don't know why I can't find any reference anywhere that this has happened.

Yea, this has baffled me too. I just watched Arn: Knight Templar and wanted to watch the sequel, but is there any point? Is it just a remake of the second half of the first film? ... Please could someone clear this up for me :)

Blue is the colour, Football is the game.

I think there where an international cut where the 2 films where cut together.
Maybe you guys saw that cut?

This info was perhaps edited in later, but the source you pasted clearly states that "both films were combined into a single cut for the English release on DVD in 2010."

i watched both on the same day

the 2007 movie is a normal movie.

the 2008 has about 1h of exactly the same scenes from the 2007 movie and about 1h of new scenes, the stories from the two movies are slightly different.
