any of the actors talk about what they were thinking when making this?

Curious if anyone's seen or read or heard any candid interviews with Wahlberg, Deschanel, Leguizamo, etc. about what they think about this movie, why they thought it might be good when making it, and what thought they put into their performances. (Not the typical promotional interviews where they have to praise the movie uncritically.)

The question is answered simply by the DVD extras where as usual Night NEVER explains to his actors the deeper meaning of a scene.

They are just actors, not thinkers and it is the job or a director to have them act as he tells them SO the viewer is left to work out the meaning.

Leguizamo was an exceptionally good casting choice as he was required to be the ultimate "ugly american" [or femi-man] so he did not need to act, just be HIMSELF.

Wahlberg and Zoey are fantastic in their roles of the "one in a million THINKING american" and the small f feminist in a state of "reform".

Ditto for plant man and soldier for Jesus crackers sake.

and little girl was amazing too and by making Lego bloke her dad it was easy for her to act like she had no respect for him as part required.

I believe Wahlberg said he liked the script but hated the finished product.
