This was a joke right?

I watched the movie for the first time last night and I couldn't believe my eyes and ears. Was Mark Wahlberg trolling everyone?! Has to be one of the worst performances I've ever seen. His line deliveries were insanely comical. Grant it he had a horrible script to work with but everything that came out of his mouth, the way his face looked, it seemed like an absolute joke.

The poor sod looked to be in a constant state of confusion. I watched it again last night. It doesn't age well.

reply

Well the event or the "happening" was mysterious in nature so they must've told marky mark to look confused and dazed throughout the movie.

Seriously - he's a likable dude but just like all singers and athletes that crosses over into acting this is not their forte.

reply

He certainly was toward those Vietnamese men.

reply

Leguizamo also. Both of them... actually everyone in the movie - Wooden acting to the extreme. It's kind of funny.

reply

Yeah what the hell was up with him? He begs Wahlberg to look after his daughter and then when he says "yes" he gets all pissed off and is like "don't take my daughters hand unless you mean it". WTF, I'd be like "OK fine then I won't asshole"

reply

Incredibly dumb script!

They cast Wahlberg as a science teacher.

The dude just cannot play an intellectual character.

reply

Hard to imagine anyone pulling off a decent performance with dialogue so terrible, but yeah Wahlberg is especially bad in this. Bummer, since I know he can act.

reply

Yeah, at least you can take Zooey Deschanel at face value in this movie for being boring and mediocre, as she always is.

reply

EVERYTHING. Literally everything about this film was a joke. I thought I was watching a parody.

I was dying inside already but when It got to the part of Mark's character started to talk to a Fake Plant...I facepalmed like I never have before.

The film is actually meant to be funny. It is supposed to be a b movie horror comedy the problem is the film takes itself to serious with alot of it an when it tries to be funny the dialogue is so awkward its just weird. So it dosent work as a horror comedy but this film dose work as a so bad its good film.

reply

No. I deem these lies to be erased from the internet forever in 17 days.

Let's see who takes the bait.

The film is not meant to be funny. That's just Shyamalan backpedaling due to the film's terrible reception. Before the film came out he kept bragging about how people were "so scared and shaking" after advance screenings. Then the film came out, the world laughed at him, and now the movie's a "comedy" according to him. LOL!

reply

There is no way this film was made not meant to be funny. He may be a director whos made some bad flicks but hes still not so bad he would miss out on obvious comedy. There are scenes in this film you can tell were filmed for comedy with obvious jokes rather the film was meant to be so bad its good or a well made horror comedy is another question.I think he really was wanting to make a well made horror comedy instead he got a so bad its good film lol

reply

Then it succeeded because I laughed at several points.

reply

I don't want to rule out that the film was meant to be funny (in a b-movie kind of way) but if it was then it certainly was handled very badly by the director and the actors. In most b-movie horror comedy's there is some consistency in the direction and actors certainly don't handle their job the way Wahlberg did. His performance is certainly very different from that of the other actors in this movie, so either those other actors didn't get the memo or Wahlberg did a very bad job.
