This movie is just...

...the latest masterpiece in a trend of awful pathetic attempts at finding HUMANITY and SPIRITUALITY through the lens of the camera...and these all come from a director who has been and will be a true-to-form political and ideological CHAMELEON throughout his life. The grand illusion gone , all the ideals he stood for are up in smoke and this is what he turns into. The same person who used to teach ideology and used to define theatrical plays as useless and "INAPPROPRIATE" , used to argue and GUIDE mis-clad women right on the entrance of the university of tehran , now makes a movie which contains female nudity !!! I seriously doubt this man has ever had a glimpse of humanity in his entire life.
Maybe that's the reason why all his movies are about one thing :
Misery.
Take it from me : this film does not even remotely represent India.
You are nothing , mr director , but a leech whose LIFE is based on the misery of other people - after helping (in no small part) to make the people of your own country miserable by supporting a fascist regime , now you have started to look into Afghanistan , India , possibly Iraq next - maybe ?
To put people's hard lives in contrast and magnify their misery is just repulsive.
It's because of Islamic hardliners , THE LIKES OF YOU , that the Afghan people are in hardship.DON'T YOU GET IT ?
Shame on you , mr makhmalbaf for taking the concept of India and turning it into this film.
Who allowed you to take your sorry self-righteous carcass along with your stupid one-eyed camera into the holy city of Varanasi ?
Who the *beep* are YOU to judge ninety-nine hundred years of spirituality ?
I hope you never find the thing that you have lost : your spirit.

I agree with alot of what you said. The man is a hypocrite who has used the misery of others in order to travel all around the world and feel like an enlightened man in festivals worldwide.
