Great psych movie but.. Whitaker's blood in diner?

I really enjoyed this movie showing how people pivot after pivotal events. It was the same flavor as another of my fave's, Grand Canyon, which also had a very recognizable and talented cast.

So I appreciated it very much for the insight into human behavior and psychology, and the following comment is superficial but it's about...

WHITAKER'S BLOOD: He is lying in his own pooling blood from a serious neck wound and the blood is not red and fluid but sticky gooey dark maroon almost black, congealing. When the shooter steps in it, it is almost gluey. They replay the scene several timess. All the other blood in the movie looks realistic. The diner blood was striking enough that I wondered if it was deliberate and symbolic.

Excellent observation. I also though Whitaker shed an awful lot of blood for someone who was in the hospital only briefly and back on his feet seemingly within days.

I can't say I enjoyed this film as much as you, but the cast certainly made it worthwhile. The vignettes seemed pretty fragmented (I guess that was the point), and the longer I watched, the less satisfied I became.

You'd be amazed how much a scalp wound can bleed.

As for the darkness of the blood, possibly it was because of the lighting. Possibly it was intentional on the part of the director.
