A movie that keeps it real (SPOILERS)

This Flick may be bland and may even seem depressing and hopeless, but at least it's depicting reality. There's no glamour, it's about everyday people with regular jobs who weren't happy to begin with, and the incident heightened their unhappiness, even the surgeon who had a great income was still unhappy. The only hopeful aspect was the inclusion of God, a character becomes a born again Christian and looks to God for hope which is a wise thing to do whether you're in an aftermath tragedy or whether you're having a "great life". (Psalm 34:18).

This Movie may be dull, boring e.c.t, but what no one can take away from this Film is that it's real! We see that other characters don't turn to God, they turn to sex, gambling, e.c.t. instead to remove their emotional pain and unhappiness, and as we see - those practises don't take away their sadness and definitely doesn't bring them hope.

The depiction of real life about this Cine is that people look to all different things for fulfilment in life, that is why this Movie keeps it real.

Well said.

It is a poignant drama that balances the beauty, mystery, mundaneness and horror of the human existence in the manner of "Snow Angels" (2007), "Grand Canyon" (1991) and "Crash" (2004). Unfortunately, it's not nearly as effective. The movie had great potential but somehow the story fragments don't quite come together into a satisfying whole. Like those three films, "Fragments" is a study of human nature and the human experience. Attempting to cope after a senseless killing spree, each of the five characters responds to their trauma in a generally destructive way.

The five story lines can be summed up as such ***SPOILERS***: 1.) Charlie gambles everything away and physically abuses himself directly (alcohol) and indirectly (failing to pay his debts). 2.) Carla (Kate Beckinsale) neglects her baby while seeking physical intimacy. 3.) Anne (Dakota Fanning) becomes hyper-religious to cover up a lie. 4.) Jimmy clams up, shutting others out, and ultimately arms himself. 5.) Doctor Lareby (Guy Pearce) alternately poisons and saves his wife. ***END SPOILERS***

I appreciate the fact that the film shoots for depth and, despite the raw reality of each storyline, there's a tangible air of reverence and spirituality. Of course, any film that reaches for depth and partially fails will be accused of pretentiousness, and so it is with "Fragments."

It's plainly flawed, but potential viewers who appreciate psychologically driven films might want to give this one a look.
