Don't understand why....

1) priest Anna was so quick to let someone she barely knew, in this case Jan, babysit her son?
2) Anges would leave her son unattended? (while she went to get hot chocolate)

" Benny, you silly great fat article"

Regarding why she left the child in the stroller unguarded:

Not sure how it is now, I have not lived in Norway in over 15 years. When I did, my daughter was just a baby, it was very common to leave the kids outside the grocery stores while shopping. Something we never did because we did not feel comfortable with that notion. Seems absolutely crazy to me now. Crime is generally very low, very safe country. Even in Oslo which is where we lived, not sure where the movie was supposed to take place.

Per your question-
She originally went in just to get hot chocolate for Isak, but then one of the other customers spilled something on her shirt and she had to go to the bathroom to clean it. So, she didn't intend to be in there as long as she did.

It's not too uncommon in Scandinavia. Guess no one remembers the big media story a while ago of a Danish couple visiting NYC who were cited for child neglect for leaving their kid outside a cafe there?

Moreover, we see in a flash back that before the chocolate was spilled, she could see her child through the window and was actively looking out for him.

Re: 1): Somwhere in the film, Anna explicitely states that she is naive.

Re: 2): My guess is this would have been rather normal in all Scandinavian countries at that time (although not today, not anymore).
