Why the Australian version works

1. It's a comedy show with comedians in the lead roles.

2. Despite playing mother and daughter, the actresses are the same age.

3. It's an astute observation of the lower class.

There was no need for an American channel to remake this, they just needed to take a cue from some new comic talent, which I hear they have a lot of in the States.
