Why the HELL did they cancel it?

This show is great! It's so hilarious. I don't understand how it wasn't picked up for another season, I mean Simple Life had like 5 seasons for the god's sake.

I agree. After a few episodes the show got in it's groove and was rather funny. I can't believe that this show and 'My Name Is Earl' got canned, yet they keep garbage like '30 Rock' and reality TV shows. NBC is pathetic.

reply

Ha! You love this trash and you hate 30 Rock?! Mate, you've ruined your credibility!

The US version was a terrible interpretation of a brilliant comedy series. If you haven't seen the Australian original, do so! Although by the sounds of it, you tend to steer away from well written comedies that are actually funny.

I'm assuming you're also a fan of Two an a Half Men and The Big BangTheory?

reply

LOL, yeah I was totally with that post until 30 Rock was trashed... A show I recently discovered via Netflix and am completely hooked on.

I like both Molly Shannon and Selma Blair but I never got a chance to watch this show. I was shocked to see the low rating for this show though. I plan on downloading the series and seeing for myself.

reply

I am not sure. I am an Australian and thought the series was not very good. But I love Molly Shannon though, she did a pretty good performance. Maybe because of the negative backlash possibly worldwide from the UK, Australia ect. and the slumping ratings.

reply

Because it was not funny in any way and absolutely tarnished the reputation of the far superior original.

This show is brill, I am so pissed it was cancelled.

I cant believe NBC has crap shows like Whitney on air, but cancelled this show which was great. Im still watching it at least once a year. I absolutely love it, love the chemistry the actors have, the humor, design, everything!!

reply

I know!! Whitney is pretty bad.

They really should have named Kath & Kim something else so people would not compare it to the AU version. The show should be judged for what it is (or was) and not compared to the other one. This show is freakin' hilarious and full of sharp wit. I have to rewind parts sometimes to catch certain things. The show constantly makes fun of itself and is unashamedly campy. Molly Shannon and Selma Blair had great chemistry, and John Michael Higgins as Phil had some of the best lines EVER. Anyway, this show is extremely under-rated and under-appreciated. I guess if you don't "get it" you just don't get it. Too bad.

By the way, I have never seen the Aussie version but really want to.

reply

I do like Whitney, but I agree that this show should've had a different name so people wouldn't be automatically biased against it, I haven't yet seen the original series, but I thought this was a pretty fun show.

reply

I also agree. To try to make a US version of such a unique show was an impossible task. The chemistry and quick wit is missing from this version.

After all this time, I've managed to watch a couple of episodes and I believe that it deserved to be cancelled. This show wasn't in the same league as the original. The scripts, the casting and the chemistry was horribly wrong.

Do yourself a favour scorpion-52 and watch some of the original episodes. There's some Australian references and humour that may not all make sense, but you'll get the idea of why the US series was such a failure as a copy.

reply

It should have been a red flag when Magda Szubanski refused to allow the US version to use the netball playing Sharon (on which she holds the copyright).

What the Americans would have made of a chubby woman with band aid covered boils on her face who thought "pole dancing" should be done in Polish national dress beggars belief.
