It's actually quite good if you give it a chance. A lot of people keep comparing it to "Quantum Leap", but it actually started to develop its own separate mythology that was quite different than the one for "Quantum". Sadly, it never got as fully developed as one would have liked as it was cancelled prematurely due to the 2007-08 Writer's Strike (that coupled with the fact that it came on after "Heroes" underwhelming second season at the 10 p.m. death-slot), but Kevin Falls had some very interesting ideas for future seasons that never came to fruition. Even though the show was cut before the next planned 9 episodes were filmed the series finale works as is and clears up some unanswered questions. If you're interested, I highly recommend watching the Complete Series of 13 episodes on Hulu.com for free. Trust me, if you are into good genre television with well-written stories and characters, then this show is definitely for you!

Very similar in regards to time travelling, but Dan Vasser is still himself and is able to travel back and forth until the problem is solved and is able to bring and take items with him. No need to explain Dr. Sam Beckett's story as it's not the same, except the time travel part.

Most TV shows share pretty much the same outline - based on which category they fall in. For example, I was thinking about Journeyman and how it's similar to other TV shows. Off the top of my head is The Greatest American Hero and Knight Rider. Sure, these do not involve time travel, but the root of the show is about an "everyday" man that helps solve crimes, other people's problems, etc. and they have an "assistant" to help them along. Come to think about it, Dead Like Me, Highway To Heaven and Touched By An Angel used similar concepts.

Now IMHO, it wouldn't be a rip-off if the same people behind the people (The Powers That Be) are the same ones behind all these shows, if that makes sense. They're basically repackaging the same show by re-writing and tweaking the story line. We've seen it all before, but it's pretty cool how they keep revamping it.

Edit-

You know, it's kind of funny. As I'm thinking of similar shows (about an everyday man that helps people, solve or fix problems), I started thinking how similar Kevin McKidd and Anthony Michael Hall look alike, and then I remember than A.M.H. also starred in a show about a guy that had special powers where he went around helping people; The Dead Zone. Of course not, please read it again. I said, "As I'm thinking of similar shows (about an everyday man that helps people, solve or fix problems)" That is what they did in Greatest American Hero and Knight Rider, among many other shows with this type of concept. Time Travel, super hero, super car, whatever else, is just added to the basic plot (of a man/woman, that helps people or solves their problems).

Saying Journeyman is a rip-off of Quantum Leap makes as much sense as saying Law & Order is a rip-off of Perry Mason. Other than both shows being about time travel, that's where the similarities end. Different characters, different back stories, different plots, different formulas, different shows. Period.

I'm a big fan of Quantum Leap and I thoroughly enjoyed Journeyman also. Not a ripoff at all - that's like saying time travel is off limits after QL.

And he didn't leave Rome for this show. Rome was over - it was only planned to be one season but it got such critical acclaim they made it into 2 season. There was NO chance of it continuing, so he took this opportunity AFTER Rome had finished its run.......FYI......

Oh, and speaking of ripoffs, there are runmblings once again that SYFY plans to reboot Quantum Leap. I USED to be excited when I would hear this, but with the quality of SYFY's programming going down the toilet in recent years, I shudder to think what it will become. They don't do any serious sci-fi any longer. It is all goofy comedy/sci-fi ridden with terrible jokes......

it is he is helping people in the time line

If you're going to ask that question, they you should ask how Quantum Leap isn't a rip off of "Voyagers!".

I loved Voyagers!

Meeno Peluce was on (like) three different shows in three consecutive years... And I liked two of them... Best Of The West was hilarious!!
