Probably production design and cinematography. Maas's films generally don't fare well with critics in other respects. I liked the film, though it was a bit disappointing. My least favorite Maas film, but still a 7/10. Looking forward to his next films.

You can say that critics maybe don't like his films very much, but he already has won 4 gouden kalveren

so maybe they like him just a little and I don't really care. I'm glad he's back to make some films. He makes films for big audiences, most Dutch filmmakers make a kind of Indie films who never get an audience or just a small one. Like Nanouk Leopold, nobody goes to her films, but they are pretty good and the critics also like them. But there have to be Dutch films for big audiences or there won't be a Dutch movie industry anymore.
So I am looking forward to any new work Maas is going to make in upcoming years
