What did kids think of this movie?

The thing about a spiderman movie movie is that if you dont like it, you can always say "well you know, at least the kids will like it". But in the case of the amazing spider-man , i'm not sure if that statement applies.
Did kids like this movie at all ? I always thought that this movie would be too dark, mopey, joyless and talky for little'uns. Am i right , or did kids actually dig this?

Well, I never had the impression this film was supposed to be made for kids. Not young kids, anyway. Though it's hard to tell. It's probably not the sort of thing a five-year-old would watch unless they're quite sophisticated, and understand what DNA is, for example.

Or when Gwen says:

"Sorry, Dad. I can't, um, have cocoa right now, because I'm work... I'm doing this, um... I have, uh... cramps. I feel kinda pukey and... just emotional. I keep crying. It's brutal. You don't want to know."
I wouldn't have understood what that meant when I was five. But it's been a long time since I was five. Are kids a bit more informed these days?

My younger cousins (two boys ages 5 and 9) love the Raimi trilogy and simply enjoyed this film. They thought the romantic scenes were cheesy and didn't like the fact that Peter and Gwen actually got along so well with one another and much of the focus was placed on their dynamic.

Their mother and father preferred this one to the Raimi films. Although, that could partially be because they're burned out on repeated viewings of the Raimi flicks, which they do enjoy. My aunt did specifically say that this one worked more for her because she actually really liked the characters and their chemistry. I could definitely understand this film not appealing to most children though. It certainly takes a slow-burn approach when it comes to action and thrills.

This film will probably work for adults more then kids as it's more a personal story about Peter Parker then a cgi fest

My little brother thinks this film is totally 'awesome' but he watches loads of action movies and cartoons. It's personally his thing to do. He's not in particular a Spider-Man fan but he loves the movies. Apparently he likes the Lizard and Spidey shooting his webs.

I work in a school, in a year one class, and I noticed one lad had a Spider-man lunchbox. But he corrected me and said "no Mr P, it's an AMAZING Spider-man!"

The lunchbox only had a picture, no words, so I guess he prefers TASM!

Last summer I was collecting donations on a charity fair and my job was to paint kids' faces to make them look like animals or movie characters and every second boy asked for Spiderman's mask. Then I realized they weren't born when the 'Tobey' version was on. So, cross my heart, all those kids must have loved the new movie or at least the gadgets that came with it ;)

It's nice to know that kids still like Spidey. The other day, I saw a little boy in a Spidey costume, and I did the *thwip!* gesture. He seemed surprised that an adult would know that.
