Missed the Mark...

I understand how Hollywood typically has portrayed the Arab as "bad" according to JS but he seems to even have a problem with when movies show events that actually did involve Arabs, or were based on true events. I'm unclear on if he wants Arabs to always be portrayed in a positive light or to be left out of movies altogether.

He also talks about how movies always show Israelis getting killed by Palestinians but not the other way around. If that were to happen, then they have shown Israelis as "bad". He seems to not be in favor of movies portraying the good AND the bad in human nature. His views seem extreme in my opinion. You might as well have movies with no picture, with neutral voices as to not offend people.

With Aladdin, I did think the song was in bad taste and was shocked Disney had those lyrics (I remember them getting changed after), but thought he was way too overly sensitive with being offended how some characters were portrayed. They did show good Arabs. In fact, most of the main characters were good like Aladdin, Genie, and Jasmine. This leads me again to prove my point that he seems to want to have his cake and eat it too with all Arabs being portrayed in a positive light. I never saw Network but from my understanding, wasn't the movie supposed to be a satire (could be wrong on this)?

I'm a Jew (as my username might suggest), and many times Jewish characters aren't portrayed in the most flattering light either and most of the time, the movies are written by fellow Jews! Women are seen as being nags, high maintenance, and unlikeable. The men are shown as being nebbish and always having white collar jobs. We also rarely are as attractive as the non Jewish characters on screen, but does this mean I will stop seeing movies that showing negative Jewish characters? While there might be many stereotypical Jewish characters, you come across decent Jews in movies as well.

We have gone too far with being PC IMO. There was an episode of South Park years ago on the topic and cultural sensitivity which I found hilarious. They were trying to figure out which words offend people around the holidays so that they could remove it from the holiday season (or something of that nature). They found that even the word chair was insensitive!

I think it's pretty clear in the movie that he actually wanted to have both the good and bad shown, and I don't see how you can not see that, if not intentionally.

1: Three Kings, he he literally spells it out for you: It's not black and white. People are ideologically and morally diverse, and yet most people are nice and friendly.

2: Kingdom of Heaven: Shows, to his mind, religious tolerance.

Among other examples.

I suggest you watch the last third of the film again if you really got the impression stated above.
