(SPOILERS) About the very beginning AND the very ending

First thing I want to note is just something more silly than serious, but still interesting. Has anyone noticed how Leeron is the only person not to change his looks or voice as the years pass? I mean. . gay people grow old too, ya know. Then you have someone like Rossi who looked and sounded like a gruff bamf at the very end, in the epilogue. But Leeron was still exactly the same.

Second, the ONE thing I don't really get - when did the scene at the very beginning of the first episode take place? I assume that was Simon and. . Boota? (post-transformation into a humanoid?)
