what's all the hype?

I watched up to about episode 10, I really gave this a shot. Nothing good about it in my opinion. why is this so highly rated?

More for the latter half of the series. It does get better, but I really didn't like Kamina, so it was a pain to watch the first 8 eps or so.

First episodes are OK, but in the middle,

After Kamina Dies

There is 2 episodes very weak and boring... but then... oh boy... then the episodes get better every time...

The show is fairly typical mecha fare at first, gets really interesting about where you are, and then starts getting crazy around episode 17. Give it a few more episodes.

What does that have to do with liking or disliking this show? I personally like both.
