...if you wanta win an Oscar real bad, you gotta play someone who's insane.

I agree the route to an Oscar is often insanity but I think this particular film was a bit more subtle than that. If for no other reason than we didn't have a nice simple sympathetic potentially humorous type of illness. I think what we saw was the total disintegration of a person under a multitude of pressures real or imagined.

That's why I didn't watch it. I couldn't bear to watch Natalie Portman lose her mind onscreen.

I understand that. There are some films I just don't want to watch because horrible things happen. But she is very good and the film is very good and there is enough ambiguity to keep you thinking what exactly is happening.
