Did Aronofsky just hire anyone who was Jewish...?

You have the new It Girl ballerina Nina, played by Natalie Portman who is Jewish, superseding the old It Girl ballerina played by Winona Ryder, who is also Jewish. The girl Nina is in competition with is played by Mila Kunis, also Jewish, and Nina's domineering mother is Barbara Hershey, again Jewish. All in a movie directed by a Jewish man. I'm sorry but are we to believe this was all just a coincidence? It seeks like Aronofsky just picked all these people to fill the cast with Jews. Heck, Vincent Cassel is the only non-Jewish person in the main cast!

You sound really bitter and annoyed that Jewish people are so damn talented. I work with dozens of Jewish people and they are literally all the smartest and most important people in my office. Genes are genes.

That's the thing--I don't believe they all got cast because they were best for the part. I think the director was just trying to give jobs to fellow Jews. Portman is obviously talented but how do you explain how the ex big ballerina, the current big ballerina, and the girl who wants her spot are all Jewish? Especially when Jews only make up 2% of the population according to statistics. How does that little 2% dominate one film? I think Jews are looking out for other Jews, and this kind of favoritism is annoying. You can't tell me they had open casting calls and all four main actresses just so happened to be the best for the parts and Jewish coincidentally.

That 2% has profoundly superior intelligence. It makes them better actors, comedians, lawyers, scientists, etc. They also have a disproportionate number of Nobel Prizes. A remarkable people. The Nazis felt the same way you did.

You are trolling, right? Because the Israeli's have shown tremendous restraint when it comes to the violent murdering Palestinians that refuse to compromise on anything.

The Nazis mass murdered millions of people in death factories. The Israelis do everything in their power to protect the "Palestinians."

Thank you "Andale" and "Ramon" for being exceptionally rational, fair minded, and obviously intelligent. - "Halcyon" must be a beacon of his community: not only a troll but an ignorant hater, with terrible taste in cinema (look at his list). The black Muslim version of him is why I was lucky to flee Africa. It seems that if his family constantly received death threats from a neighbor, and that same neighbor constantly took potshots at his children (but "missed" most of time, then Halcyon would simply get high, laugh it off and not protect his own children.

halcyonsummer, powerful Israelites control our media and pretty much have the US country in their back pocket. It is of no coincidence their enemies have become our our enemies in various ways and you will never see an Arab/Muslim ever succeed in Hollywood. Never going to happen. And the pretty blatant favoritism here will always be overlooked, so nothing new here. I did think Nat Portman did a great job but favoritism is favoritism.

Odd, for you to mention Israel in this way, since it patently proves you wrong.. of course the country is funded by the US, but money doesn't magically create technological and scientific innovations, and Israel boasts a very disproportionate amount of both. They export technology rather than leeching it. In the face of the obvious correlation we see between cognitive skills and empathy, your theory just amounts to a mitigation of butthurt. I'm white btw.

It does actually, since money buys the scientists and engineers doing the discovering. The Arabs and Chinese aren't building record structures because they suddenly got so smart, they just have the money (western money) to pay for the expertise. What they can't buy, such as high end military equipment they are far, far behind. Israeli guns are the litter of the market. China's single aircraft carrier is a rebuilt russian hulk and looks it. There would be no nuclear weapons in these countries either if foolish Americans hadn't given it to them.

I haven't seen the obvious stated anywhere; which is that Natalia Portman at 5'3" was much too short to be believable as a prima ballerina.

Why would any legitimate director casting the lead in a movie about ballet give the role to an actress who is a good half foot too short for the part??

Vincent Cassel became famous after playing a Jewish youth in french film La Heine (which is a good film)..maybe he is a Jew himself, a quick google had contradictory results, so I dont know..

..but one thing, looking through the list of producers, it seems the film was produced and hence financed by American Jews, so why shouldn't it have a Jewish cast ? Its like saying Spike Lee's films have too many African Americans in it..good luck to them, personally i thought the film sucked but its nothing to do with them being jewish

Spike Lee uses mostly black actors because his films are usually about black people. Black Swan is not about jewish people, so there's nothing to suggest it needs jewish actors. As a director he should go for the best actors for the job, and when almost your entire cast is jewish you can't really say that was his first priority.

Well, I guess everybody has to accept that some jewish film-makers are going to make films with mainly jewish actors, almost exclusively, even though it may be totally unrepresentative of society at large. Aronofsky isnt the only one who does it - look at those Judd Apatow/ Seth Rogen comedies. All the main actors are Jewish.

I agree that its kind of strange its not made explicit - when Martin Scorcese made The Departed, it featured Catholics, but it was set in a Catholic community and it was quite clear about it, ditto Spike Lee.

I know right? "Can you believe there's so many Jewish people in this movie?" Um, hello!!!! Do you have any idea how many Jews are in the entertainment business in the first place? And secondly, who gives a *beep* what they are? They all came together and made a pretty damn good movie.

Sadly, not. There are still a huge amount of lunatics out there who obsess over race, religion, etc.. That's one big reason why our world sucks. I was raised by a racist mom but a completely non judgemental dad, and perhaps that's why I wound up the way I did, he would take me aside and explain (after any of her ridiculious comments) why she was wrong and why she felt that way. Rather than focus on the quality of the work, nutcases obsess over who was involved and what their background is. I don't know how they can live that way, always finding a reason to feel miserable and angry. Jewish, christian, white, black, asian, muslim, etc.; really, what's the difference? Peel the skin off and we're all the same.
