Would Meryl Streep have been a better choice instead of Barbara Hershey?

It says on the trivia that Meryl was consider to play Erica, Nina's mother. I like Meryl as actress, but I can't imagine her playing in a movie like this. Anyways, I thought Barbara was great in Black Swan. What do you think?
