How does Black Swan only average 8.0? Clearest 10 ever

There has never been a more perfectly made and performed film than Black Swan.

Agree! My special question why this movie isn't in Top 250 Movies anymore.. What a shame!

There's something wrong with Esther.

Especially when you look at the films that have made the top 250! Ridiculous.

Normally this movie should be in Top 250. Easily it's one of the best movie I've ever seen.

Why do you even care ? I think the most important thing is that this movie is on your top list. I loved this movie and gave it 8 but I understand why so many people score it lower. It's not a movie for everybody, and even if people like it doesn't have to resonate with them enough to get 10. You also have to take into consideration that many people nowadays have a binary scoring system, movies are either "Best movie ever" (10), or "Worst movie I've ever seen" (1), add marketing firms scoring movies with thousands of dummy accounts and that's why for example every blockbuster starts with 8+.

As far as Aranofsky's movies I love "Requiem for a Dream" (10) and "Pi" (9) better. We all have different tastes so no point arguing about it.

Your post is helpful, and I respect your opinion. But there's too many movies that doesn't deserve to be in the top 250.
E.g.: The movies which doesn't deserve in the top 250 were shot one month or less, and then Boyhood is shot 12 years. It was in Top 250 Movies and then gone after one year. It's a great movie!

I've noticed in the last couple of years it's become rather 'cool' to bash this movie. Tall poppy syndrome, perhaps.

I feel it's due to the general rise in misogyny of late that wasn't as prominent back in 2010.

Changing of the guard....

The Dark Knight is the 4th best movie EVER according to IMDB--

That should tell you something right there.

Have a close look at the top 250. A lot of the films (most of them, in fact) are driven by male characters and tell very male-centric stories. It's no wonder Black Swan, which to me is a flat-out masterpiece, was bumped off. It's a story in which the two leading characters are female.

Because people who hated this vicious, vile trash gave it a low rating. Revolting characters doing revolting things. I can't believe I watched the whole thing. I guess I was hoping for some redemption but it finished like it started: ugly.

Nothing to do with gender. This was just a horrible movie.

I myself loved it 9/10. My husband on the other hand wanted to shoot the TV. It's just a matter of personal likes/dislikes in my opinion.

You are entitled to your opinion, for sure, but it's pretty extreme to call it 'perfect'. For starters, it relied on B-movie 'shock' techniques too greatly, and a lot of it was too ambiguous in that it wasn't clear whether what was being shown was actually happening, or only in the Natalie Portman character's head.
