the show would be allright if only...

... they didn't stick the token annoying gay into it

I know what you mean...I so blame "Will and Grace".

So far, the only gay character I have seen portrayed non-stereotypically on tv is Calvin in "Greek".

I don't like they way they made her pregnant. That ruined it for me, then they made the baby black. And she get's all mad at whats-his-name for cheating on her, yet she cheats on him...hypocritical.

Yes add token Interracial situation; White woman with Black baby, Not Black women with White baby or Asian with Black or white partner.

The "white woman with black baby" is more than an "interracial situation" for the show: you can only be shown to be cheating through the appearance of your baby IF both the mother and the assumed father have recessive genes but the baby is born with dominant genes. To take your example of a Black woman with a white baby, that is pretty rare because Black is a dominant skin colour; if a Black woman has a white baby, it is not necessarily because she cheated because both parents could have recessive genes. As well, they needed it to be caught by everyone immediately and take the actress's features in effect (her skin is the only colouring feature that is recessive, since she is brunette with brown eyes), so a black baby establishes that in an instant.

If it had been an Asian woman, a white baby would be recessive against her dominant. As for black, the baby's skin would be darker than hers (dominant) but it might not be as noticeable, or can even be often missed.

It's a shame about the lack of racial representation, or the need for tokenism but I still see progress. I have seen shows with very different couples, but they are never the popular ones.

But I still think the Black baby was more about story of making the main character forced to acknowledge her actions by having them in her face and every present for everyone else to see than the Race issue. How boring to through the Race Issue into a character that cannot articulate and often isn't even on screen.
