As good as Dragonquest?

Do they compare at all? I love Dragonquest because it was so user friendly, and even the turn based combats were fun due to all the multiple spells and abilities.

On the other hand I bought Kingdom hearts 2 which I found absolutely boring, the fightings were just buttons mashing and the enemies exactly the same no natter which level you were at, it was absolutely not user friendly and the cut scenes were soooooooooooooo long

So I can't decide whether to buy Rogue galaxy, is it closer to Dragonquest or Kingdom hearts 2?

In my opinion, it's a bit of a mix. So far it hasn't been as immediate as Dragon Quest, if you know what I mean. But still, I'm glad I bought it. The fights in Rogue Galaxy are pretty damn action packed and far more exciting than Dragon Quest... but I don't know...

Rogue Galaxy feels like a poor man's Final Fantasy 12. I had high hopes as it was supposed to be what they call a "spiritual successor" to Dark Chronicle, just about my favourite PS2 games ever.

Buy Rogue Galaxy, but don't expect to be overwhelmed, is what I would say to anyone...

Hope that helps.

Yeah I felt like Final Fantasy 12 was Rogue Galaxy on crack. However Rogue Galaxy has a lot of stuff going for it like next to zero load times, and a superior storyline (well so far).

Just about agree with Solarflair.

"Final Fantasy 12 was Rogue Galaxy on crack." Ha ha good one, Dodge.

DQ 8 was awesome, a real achievement, apart from the frickin' random battles... made me cry.

Has anyone played Dark Chronicle aka Dark Cloud 2? Level 5 made that one too and it is FANTASTIC, very engaging. It's one of those games where you genuinely care about the characters (despite their irritating voices) and its got an epic feel about it too, definitely one of my faves.

I'd put rogue galaxy well above FF XII, but not FF X..

one of the best games i've played in a long time..

for a good comparison of battle systems, i think the closest game is the Gamecube Tales of game... not sure if the other tales games are the same, but i do plan to find out soon, since my next game will likely be tales of the abyss.

Rogue has a very good story, with a couple holes in it.. especially at the end, which obviously i'm not going to give you here.

the last dragonquest i played was VII, which i thought was ok, but the story just didn't hold my attention thru the game... actually now i'm not even sure if i ever finished DQ VII.

but of course we all have different tastes, so who knows.

Apart from the battle system, which is clearly closer to KH2, Rogue Galaxy is a pretty much similarly constructed game as Dragon Quest. Same tongue-on-cheek-story focusing more on characters and humor than the actual events and plot.

However, RG has much more dungeoncrawling in it and it isn't as free as DQ. It has some of the most painful dungeons I have ever played. And the battle system somehow lacks the feeling of progress. In the end the battles feel exactly the same as in the beginning, depending just on how many potions you have on stock.

Still I do think RG is a better game than KH2. It's a fairly intense game with great characters and a lot of things to do, and it's definitely not as linear as some of the FF's. The score is on a whole different level than DQ's, many beatiful and exciting melodies.

All in all, Dragon Quest is slightly better, but Rogue Galaxy is worth a try.
