I don't get that channel but anytime I see a movie that has sci-fi channel or syfy attached to it, it's a no brainer that its to be avoided. I do keep my eye on the comments in case the channel ever changes its current pathetic film making practises. And so here I am in the comments, agreeing with the OP, and sighing as I think of the great cinema a TV channel, with all of its resources and a 100% focus on science fiction could put out given the right scripts.
It seems to me, and I could be wrong here, that all of these movies try to be epic in some way. Despite never having an epic budget to realise it. If you take a film like Moon. Now that is hardcore science fiction and yet has no huge budget. Primer is another example of a no budget science fiction masterpiece. I just wish the channel would focus in on small stories that can be brilliantly realised within their budget.
You watch, the next movie will be Syfy channels original Avater. Promising to be just like the two hundred and fifty million dollar Avatar but within a two hundred and fifty thousand dollar budget. When will they learn?
