Maui Fever is Good For Maui

Can't wait for the next episode- hope it takes me back to Maui and some new and interesting places. The photography is sharp, vivid and where else can you get a current glimpse at how bueatiful the Island of Maui is!
Maui needs more TV and Movie Studios to film there. TV and Movie production would be good for the local economy and I have to take my hat off to MTV for stepping up and making a significant investment in Maui. I am sure many jobs were offered to local people in Maui during the shoot. I am sure some of them were locals and appreciated the extra income. The locals also learned about making TV with the latest in HD camera gear and this knowledge will be good for Maui when they work on other local projects.
The people that disagreed with the casting of the show should get together and produce their own show with local Maui people. I am sure MTV tried to cast saome Hawaiian's but not everyone is good on TV. The kids they selected are very good on camera and that is probably why they were selected.
So bottomline, in my opinion, Maui Fever was a very positve event for Maui. The exposure was very good for the Island and many local people gasined from the experience. I hope they do it again and involve more Hawaiians and take me to more places in one of the world's most fascinating places.

Maui Fever is not the REAL Hawaii or even close. It shows outsiders living in Hawaii partying and that is supposed to be life in Hawaii???WTF

You make it sound like native hawaiians are not accustomed to the civilized world.ahhahahahaah They get the extra income from tourism that exploites there culture with fake culture for the most part. There is tourist hula and real hula.If you wanna see how Hawaii really is,visit it.Don't take what you see on tv for reality.Reality TV may be live but the drama is there long before they start filming plus they only show a small click of RICH haole kids and surfers.

Haole = A word used mainly in Hawaii to describe a white person. Depending on how you say it, the word can mean either an insult or just a fact.

I've been going pretty much since I was born too.So I don't consider myself completely haole.Been going to the North Shore of Oahu since I was 5.Now my parents have a condo in Hanalai,Kauai.Kauai is so untouched and beautiful. It has to be like Hawaii in the 50's or earlyer.Oahu and Maui have become to crowded.

Well, I actually live in Hawaii, Oahu to be exact.. I haven't been to Maui myself (shocker, huh?) but from what I've gathered from my friends who live there - Maui Fever is anything but true to the local culture. It's funny though, many of the cast members are being threatened or chased off the island by the locals.. some of them have even fled to Oahu, haha. Anyways, ha'ole really means foreigner but the word has come to refer to Caucasians. As previously stated, it can be a derogatory comment but it depends on the way it's said. More often than not, we say it not because we're racist but because it's easier to say than "Caucasian".
