Can you rewatch it?

Seasons 1-4 are about as good as any TV you’ll ever see but that was followed by a decline until it completely crashed and burned by the finale. By now it’s established that season 8 was epic garbage but in my opinion it was already dying by season 6.

So when I went back to try and rewatch the brilliance of the first few seasons, I just couldn’t stick with it. It’s so disappointing seeing every character knowing how bungled every single storyline plays out.

So as brilliant as it was at one time I don’t know if I can rewatch it from the beginning.

What say you?

I've got the last two seasons on Google Play, but I haven't felt like touching them since I saw that execrable last season.

I agree that seasons 1 thru 4 are about as good as TV can get; even the 5 thru 7 are exceptional in terms of production value; even with the declining quality of plot and character writing.

But the problem is the story itself is a continuous build to a climactic finally. So much of the shows story depends on how it ends. And because the end that we got is so insanely terrible there is literally no reason to rewatch the show. Everything in it was building to an unsatisfying conclusion.

As you said, you can't even watch through the first few seasons because you are constantly reminded of how their story plays out and how terribly disappointing it all was.

There is just no way to watch this show now; but it is worse than that. It was such a terrible ending, I am not interested in anything that comes before or after. Season 8 literally killed all interest I had in the IP. I'll probably finish the books if they are ever finished just because I started with the books before the show so I am curious to see how much it will differ. But that is it for me.

Thank you for putting your finger on it. I think that’s exactly how I feel!

While other series have segmented story archs this one really was building toward an ultimate conclusion: who would sit on the iron throne. But it’s clear they didn’t know how to finish the story

Sitting down and watching the whole series beginning to end... no.

But picking and choosing certain episodes or scenes, then yes it is very rewatchable. Even the last season had some great moments.

That would be difficult. If I ever do, it won't be for a loooong time.

Nope!

Re-watching it now. About half way through season 2. Loving it just as much.

It's GREAT so yeah I'll rewatch it one day.

I'd find it extremely difficult to. Season 8 just deflated the interest totally. What a sad end to a once great great show, and I include seasons 6 and 7 in that. The obvious drop in writing quality still wasn't quite enough to dampen my spirits by that point, and season 6 is the best season outside of the first 4.

The worst part is the White Walkers and the Night King for me. It'd be sad watching them in the earlier seasons knowing what all that build up ultimately leads to. They really messed that up. There could have been an entire season dedicated to the fight with them after breaching the Wall and making it to King's Landing, but no, instead we got The Rushed Night.
