Game of Thrones board seems close to dead

I wonder if the show ended better if there would be more discussion of it. Seems pretty dead here, 10 days in between a single post sometimes.

That might be the worst fate imaginable for such an amazing show, having a crap ending let the entire series and franchise slip into obscurity. HBO has got to be freaking out over this. I can't imagine D&D are going to see any success for the rest of their careers.

reply

I think they may do ok if they are adapting, as they did for the early seasons, rather than writing original material.

reply

Its over move on get over it!

reply

dude, I have not been on this board in like 5 months. I was just saying cause I happened to see it come up on the recent boards for the first time in months.

reply

Given how poorly it ends there is no reason to rewatch or talk about the show anymore.

reply

True, that last season killed all interest and rewatch value; for me at least.

reply

Bullshit! Just because the show ended badly doesn't mean we shouldn't still talk about it. It only means that this website doesn't get as much traffic as the former IMDB boards. The early seasons are still great. And we could all post about how the series should have ended. My opinion, Jon Snow should be the true king with Dany as his consort. That would be the way to truly bring the Song of Ice and Fire together in harmony. They (D&D) didn't have to turn Dany into a power hungry Hiter-like conquer.

reply

I don't know if the traffic is the explanation; Star Wars still sees quite a bit of traffic regularly. So does other shows that are years old. GOT only ended about 6 months ago, you would think it would still be a top chat item, but it isn't. Obviously this site does not see the traffic IMDB did but of the items that are discussed you would think the largest most expensive and popular show in the history of television would still be discussed semi regularly 6 months later. But it isn't.

Yeah, i think I would have preferred the more 'generic' happy ending such as you described. I think they could have made Dany's turn work but they just did not take time to flesh out any context or reason for her making such a dramatic and insane character flip. I mean she went out of her way to burn children on the street. That was never something even feasibly possible with the character up until that episode.

reply

It’s left such a sour taste I’m not interested in anything from this franchise anymore.

The last series really was that bad, horrible writing compared to the earlier seasons and plot armour protecting so many characters from what made the show so enjoyable in the first place.

reply

Yeah. But for me it is even worse I think. I don't really have a sour taste so much, I just really do not care at all anymore. Given how invested I was 1 year ago, that actually kind of surprises me. Maybe I was never as into it as i thought.

reply

It's sad but I have lost all enthusiasm for it..I can get over and accept a lot when it comes to characters that I love but I think the destruction of the characters motivations along with the total annihilation of all its prophecy has all but destroyed its legacy.
Nothing turned out to have any meaning..Not Jon's true heritage, Brans becoming the 3 eyed raven, from Azor Ahai, the Prince who was promised, to lightbringer to the White Walkers and Winter is coming to Cersi's and Jaime..all the way to Daenerys and the Red Witch.

Nothing meant anything at the end... and that just kills the beginning for me.

reply

Yeah not only did nothing mean anything. They just dropped so many plot points that it is actually quite jarring. I mean they were on the nose about it to. Like all the stuff about the Lord of Light, even the characters were like saying it never mattered much to the Gods either. Crazy

reply

I know...it just goes to show not just how inept D&D were but how little understanding they even had of their material. They thought they could shove a lot of battle scenes into the last season and it would take up all the nonsensical slack.

reply

Yeah it is kind of amazing just how incredibly botched this was. I think the actors all knew it too. I feel kind of bad for them and a lot of the production crew; they all did great jobs but my god were they given bad material.

reply

I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE FINAL SEASON!

reply

Wait.

reply

OH NO!

reply

It was so great - but remember we waited for a year and a half for the final 6 episodes - that should have been a big red flag, something was wrong.
What a disaster the final season became - the show went from being the best written show on TV to the worst.
DVD sales will reflect this. I personally never want to see this show again.

reply

Yes, that long of a delay and then only 6 episodes to try to close it all out was alarming. However when they said that each episode was going to be nearly film length I was hopeful. But by the end of the 2nd episode of the 8th season I knew it was over. 2 whole episodes out of only 6 and almost nothing happened. Meaning they were going to have to close everything up in 4 episodes. Then episode 3 happened and my brain nearly melted from all of the stupidity that was witnessed. And after that it just got worse. It was just so bad, like almost everything they could have got wrong, or plots that shouldn't have closed to fast or ignored, they did.

reply

They could have cut 30 minutes from ep 3 and it wouldn't have mattered - you couldn't see what was happening anyway.

reply

In all honesty, nothing in the last season mattered. most things that mattered were simply dropped and then a jarring end to the white walkers was followed by an even more jarring radical shift of character for Dany to lead to an 'ultimate' showdown that had no real build up or tension. That was accompanied by nearly all the characters becoming emoting-non-acting mentally challenged imitations of their former selves.

But yeah, the final battle with the White Walkers, the biggest existential threat of that world, and you couldn't even see what the F was happening. Who thought it was a good idea to shot the film through a potato? And then the show runners excuse of people needed to adjust their televisions? Really, blame the viewers for your poor choice of lighting and video quality? what a joke

reply

I agree - it was an action-packed episode yet I only watched it once. I couldn't tell what was going on the majority of the time and the strategy being used was so inept... I was frustrated squinting and flailing my arms at the TV.

reply

Well the show is dead. It was a complete and utter failure in the end, so what else is there really left to talk about?

reply

I know that is what I am saying, for a show that was once at such heights, because of the disaster of the last season there is almost now no interest in the IP. No one really seems to care what came before, or what happens after; no one want to see side stories or further adventures, all interest in the World of Ice and Fire is gone. It is quit amazing how terrible the last season was to accomplish such a thing. It managed to make everything in the universe feel meaningless and gave no reason to look more into it.

reply

Yeah it's crazy. And if it's true that no one is interested in the IP any more, then that's good. I was worried the idiots will still hype up whatever prequel or spinoff bs they were planning instead of boycotting it.

reply

True, I know they have cancelled all but 1 planned prequel; including one that had already shot the pilot episode. If the currently planned one coming in 2022 does finally make it to the small screen, we will see what kind of 'idiot' support it will still have. I know I won't be watching.
