Benioff and Weiss were FAR MORE INCOMPETENT than we all thought!

This article proves that the so-called writers of the TV show adaptation of Game of Thrones were only successful because of a FLUKE, and that they were incredibly useless as writers, and only got anywhere because they were following a better writer's work - but once they ran out of material, the show turned to crap!

I can't believe I wasted years of my life on this rubbish!

I watched the whole video, thanks for posting - wow these guys were incompetent. For me it started to go bad at the start of S7. Dany gets to Westeros and they all seem clueless as to what to do.
Do they go straight to Kings Landing? with 3 healthy dragons and the large Army? before Cersei has time to build her anti-dragon weapons? Nooo - because that would make sense.

Season 7 should have been about taking the Iron Throne.
Season 8 should have been about the Battle with the dead.

What a fucked up mess this turned into!

reply

I disagree, in that I think season 7 should have been about the Battle Between the Living and the Dead, and season 8 should have been about Jon and Danerys fighting each other for the Iron Throne.

Other than that, spot on.

reply

No your wrong - the Battle with the dead has to be last - because if its in season 7 and everyone knows theyre filming season 8, it takes all of the drama out of the Battle - we all know whos going to win - but if the save the Battle til the end, it keeps us guessing.
They could have even let the dead win and blow everyones mind. :)

I actually wrote out a fantasy version of seasons 7 and 8, it's somewhere on the depths of this board. I put the battle against the Night's King first, as did the actual show, because correctly done - a civil war pitting all the major characters against each other would offer a lot more interpersonal drama than fighting the Undead.

Those idiots D&D had the same basic idea, but instead of letting the conflict between Jon and Dany build up into a season's worth of drama that involved everyone in Westeros, they had it all over with in five minutes. FUCK THEM!!! FUCK THEM RIGHT IN THE ASSES!!!

reply

I think these idiots wanted to keep Cersei alive til the end - but I would have loved to see her meet her death in S7. Hopefully a painful one, maybe by Arya.
If you recall S1 ep1 we find out about the strange blue eyed creatures north of the Wall.
And that has been the central theme throughout the series -Winter is Coming" - that's also why I thought it should have ended with the Battle with the Dead.

But I agree - fuck those moron assholes!

The show started with the dead, it should have ended with the dead. And by ended, I mean the dead should have won. It would have a beautifully apt and poetic ending to the series.

reply

I kind of agree. Well, maybe not so much have won, as shown to be not killed off.

If the writers were clever enough they could have even had the two storylines merge together or overlap. Why necessarily have one finish for the other one to take place? I do think that if they were going to order them then the Dead should have taken precedence over a war with Cersei. To have the 2 things happen in the space of 3 episodes though was really taking the piss.

reply

But it's all GRRM's fault. He should have finished his damn books! Geez!

D&D, as incompetent as they are, would be no problem tackling the series as long as they have the books fricken written already!

Nerdrotic posted a good video about this too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFunL1j_LO0

This is good - the guy knows what hes talking about.

As seasons 1-4 are considered some of the best television there is, they are pretty good at adapting existing material. Where they really run into problems is when they have to create the story themselves. Seasons 5-8 were shit compared to 1-4

I knew something was wrong when Lady Stoneheart didn't appear at the end of Season 4. It would have been the perfect scene, ending the season, to show Beric Dondarrion's men pulling the lifeless Catelyn Stark out of the Trident and then Beric resurrecting her, as the camera zooms in on her not as full of life eyes--plotting revenge against anyone even remotely tied to wronging her and her family.

For the most part, 5 & 6 were fine. A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons material was eventually exhausted and new stuff had to be created.

Season 7 was rushed, the timeline was atrocious, characters teleporting all over the place--some in the SAME episodes. Tyrion out of character in Seasons 7 and 8 took many of us out of the show early. Only 7 episodes, lame.

Season 8 destroyed rewatchability of the show, Episode 3 was so dark you couldn't see anything and then to top it all off, the camera kept cutting the moment one of our favorite characters were in trouble. Euron Greyjoy by far the worst character in the show. Tyrion being stupid again and out of character. The final episode--brutal. All that hard work and the payoff for what? Nothing.

Also, why the heck would you change the design and layout of the opening theme of the show showing the map of Westeros and all the locations visited before each episode. Keep it consistent with the other seasons.

Bah, the pain just doesn't go away. I need George to finish his books and see if any of that crap was his idea or not.
