Who was in charge of Danys armies?

There has to be someone in charge - was it Greyworm? was it Jon? Why wasn't there a clear General? poor planning by Dany? or the writers?

reply

I think it's both. Grey Worm commanding the Unsullied and Dothraki and Jon commanding the Northern forces.

reply

Don't you remember the conflict between Jon and Greyworm? - Someone has to be in charge.

reply

After the battle for King's Landing, Dany named Grey Worm her Master of War. So I guess at that point, he was in charge of all of them.

reply

yeah at that point - during the battle someone other than Dany had to be in charge - there has to be a chain of command.

reply

Danerys was, and Drogon was her Darth Vader, the "enforcer" who made damn sure that all her various armies with their various generals didn't get any ideas.

She was directly in charge of the Dothraki, having taken out their Khals, and Grey Worm was in charge of the Unsullied, and her various Westerosian allies had their own generals. They all reported to her, maybe sometimes to her, but she was running the invasion of Westeros herself and not turning it over to some general.

So if Dany does get hit by an arrow who is in charge? There must be a General.

reply

If Dany gets killed by an arrow, the invasion falls apart on the spot, and her armies probably start fighting each other. It falls apart because the Targaryan dynasty ends with her as far as her followers know, there's no backup and no heir, the whole enterprise is a go-for-broke one-shot and they all know it.

They admire a queen who has the guts to take that kind of risk, and to go into battle with them. That's part of Medieval-style warfare, impressing your own followers with your personal courage.
