According to the cast we shouldn’t criticise

Sophie Turner, Kit Harrington and Jacob Anderson have all come out saying that the crew, actors and writers put a lot of effort into the final season and fans more or less can get fucked and need to grow up.

I think they’re severely missing where the criticism directed by fans is coming from.

It’s coming from fans who have watched characters written in a certain way for 7 seasons, then for them to be written in a manner inconsistent with the previous 7 seasons. The writing was incoherent and flat out poor in parts.

Fans are hardly coming at the actors and crew for not putting in the work. It’s more of a writing issue which is a more than valid criticism.

Wait what? isn't there like tons of videos of the cast clearly being disappointed by season 8 themselves? I know theres one interview where Kit is asked to sum up what he feels about the finale in 1 word and he says "Disappointing".

Yes, and Jacob Anderson couldnt contain his laughter at Emilia Clarke's sarcastic "best season evah!"

Yeah i saw that, you can tell in all of Emilia's interviews talking about season 8 she utterly hates what they did to her character. I mean she tries to play it off like shes fine with it but you can tell from her face and how she says certain things shes unhappy with it, like her sarcastic best season ever line.

I know theres one interview where shes asked how she feels about Dany's fate and you can tell she hates it and feels dissatisfied with it.

there's a bunch of them with other cast members as well.

if they were so protective of the writing, they should've tried harder to disguise their own misgivings, before the show even aired, while they were doing the press rounds to support it.

The thing that annoys me the most is that they didn’t do a season in 2018. So they have well over a year to write something good, something to be proud of. They had so much time but still wrote something that seemed rushed

D&D had the script for the finale since 2013. Its clear there were certain aspects of this season they were very specific on what they wanted.
FWIW, a couple episodes were written by Brian Cogman, those were the ones directed by David Nutter that people mostly liked.

FYI it would be bad for the actors' careers to do anything other than support HBO and their bosses. Part of a name actor's job is to help sell the finished product, so if they agree with the fans that S8 sucked, they might see some role they wanted go to some other actor who is trusted to do whatever the publicist says.

This really does suck for the actors. They cant tell the public what they really think about all this drama, and future Con appearances are going to be SO awkward.

So based on your logic, if you had a house and the plumbing/electricity/structural integrity was really bad, you’d be unfit to criticise because you don’t really know anything about these things.

Keep in mind this is just an example, for all I know you could be a tradie

It’s a bad comparison though. A better one would be, you order a dish in a restaurant that you never tasted before- you don’t like it- but the dish is still the way it’s supposed to be.
Or you go to an art gallery and don’t like or understand the famous center piece that all the fuzz is about.

The point is - writing a television show is art. Open to criticism, sure, but with opinions on both sides.

Nobody is going to walk into a obviously damaged house and say that the electricity is fine when the light doesn’t come on.
Different cup of tea.
