Sam

When the fuck did he have time to become a Maester?

reply

He didn't, he dropped out of Maester school to go fight in the War Between the Living And The Dead.

Incidentally, who wrote the book he was holding at the final meeting, the "Song of Ice and Fire"? Much to my surprise Sam wasn't the one who wrote it, someone else wrote it and I didn't catch the name.

So what the Hell is he doing there. He’s not trained at all. All he did at the Citadel was rewrite some books or some shit.

I thought he said Qyburn.

reply

He did cure Jorah's gray scale which apparently was a very tricky procedure;-)

reply

Well there was a precedent for someone being made Arch-Maester without having been a maester. In GRRM's history-of-Westeros book there was some Targaryan prince who was more interested in books than his sisters, and he was considered such a wierdo that he was made arch-maester without having been an actual maester or doing the complete training.

It seems pretty weird that Sam was given that kind of treatment when he's officially just one of Bronn's bannermen, but then Sam is tied with Arya for having the strongest Plot Armor on the show.

reply

Qyburn would be good!
Unfortunately, it was some archmaester Ebrose... never heard of him.

reply

Of course you all heard of Archmaester Ebrose, you even saw him. It was the guy who told Sam that the cure procedure of Greyscale is forbidden. Back then, he even mentioned towards Sam that he is writing a book called something like "The Wars Following the Death of King Robert", and Sam said that maybe he should choose a title that is more "poetic".

By the way, Sam isn’t Archmaester now, he’s Grandmaester. Still seems a bit strange, since he broke off his training. But we never actually learned what it takes to become a Grandmaester, maybe you can get the title for special merits or something. He surely isn’t a bad choice because he’s trustworthy. It surely would fit both Bran and Tyrion to choose a Grandmaester who you can trust over someone who’s more experienced.

at that point u still care? anyway as long king Bran approve who can protest?
