Can’t help feeling a bit sad..

I know this will probably sound pathetic but I’m going to say it anyway..

After watching the end of S8 E6 I couldn’t help feeling a bit sad and a little melancholy even, now that it’s all over. It’s quite a journey we’ve all been on - 8 years and 8 seasons is a long time to watch a show and now it’s all over we as fans are gonna miss it!

Seeing the shots of the Iron Throne in the final episode, with it’s broken and charred walls. This once great and grand hall with its iconic throne, now abandoned and in ruin.

Throughout the last 8 seasons we have been so used to seeing this room full of people, full of all the comings and goings of life, full of characters we have grown to love. It was so sad to see it, at the end, a shadow of what it once was. Remembering all the events that had transpired in that hall, I couldn’t help feeling nostalgic. Anyone else here feeling the same?

That’s pretty much all I wanted to say.

One more thing though - seeing Drogon incinerate the Iron Throne was pretty damn cool!

Great show, really enjoyed it. I may just go and binge watch the whole thing again now lol.

It is sad, yes, but I'd rather it ended than keep going to a point where no one cares anymore a la The Walking Dead.

I'm not 100% satisfied with the way it ended or even the whole final season, but I know that we'll never see another series like Game of Thrones again. LoTR seems to be the next big hope, but I don't care for that universe and its characters as much as this one.

So while it's sad, I'm also glad I got to witness it "live" and experience people's expectations and reactions as the series progressed. While I'm still raw about the ending, I think in a few months on down the line when the emotions have settled & we've moved on, it will be a very enjoyable show to re-watch once a year or 2.

"but I know that we'll never see another series like Game of Thrones again." That depends on whether Amazon invest the money and the right people to make The Wheel Of Time series, as that would compare if they do it right.

I can't wait to see it as it is one of my favourite book series.

Never heard of it. Will check it out.

It's been touted for years as the only thing that could compare to GOT as a series that would last as long and have all the similar fights for power between different factions over many lands etc.

The author died before he managed to finish the series, but left enough notes for another author to finish it off and he did a great job. The fight at the end is nothing short of epic and I really, really hope they can pull it off by putting as much dedication to doing it right as they did with GOT.

There's nothing pathetic about your views. Seems very reasonable to me.

Thanks both.

Me too. Partly because I thought the story was rather sad. GRRM has said before that it will be a bittersweet ending. Maybe in some ways, but I can't help but think that Jon's life as shown in GoT is just plain tragic. On a personal level he lost the two women that he loved, betraying both, but saving the lives of many more. But will his story be told, and his sacrifices? Or will he always be remembered as the Queenslayer? Maybe through Tyrion and remembered by Bran, and House Stark. And even the survivors of King's Landing. I don't know.

The other reason is because the show ended after a good run, and it's a bummer to have something you enjoy watching come to an end. Yes there were bumps and sometimes big mistakes or things that were left out, but I personally really enjoyed it. I remember reading the books thinking how it would be a great movie or t.v. show, but that it would be impossible to film. I think we got more than most people bargained for in terms of the magnitude of its success. I think the quality in so many ways was really fantastic. Consider the music. Ramin Djawadi was consistently putting out stuff that the majority of films and television don't even come close to. Not to mention the locations, the costumes, the acting (for the most part), and the visuals. Yes, I know that the story suffered at points and I wish it went in different directions, particularly the ending, but it's great to have experienced it and thoroughly enjoy it for so many years.
