WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE?

If you hated the last few episodes of this last season so much, please, explain to us what you would've done, in both keeping with the brief outline provided by the author AND not alienating further fans of the show. And bear in mind you can't please all of the fans all of the time.

reply

but Bran being king feels more like a joke. Then Dany talking about liberating the people after she just slaughter like most of them in kings landing. Its a big mess.

reply

Bran was wise and all-seeing. And Dany was insane. What's hard to understand?

reply

no one thats not in the Stark family knows that and other than Bran himself no one have any idea wtf is the 3 eye raven.

reply

Bran was as evil if not more evil than Dany. He was able to see the future, so he knew Dany was going to slaughter all the innocent people and result in him being picked as the new king, he even alludes to that when he is asked whether he will accept being made king.

So if he knew all this why in the hell didn't he tell someone so they could eliminate Dany? At the very least he could have confided in his little sister the super assassin so she could have killed Dany and used her face to lead the army to destroy Cersei while holding back from the blood lust slaughter of the women and children... But he does nothing to stop this and he was more aware of what was going to happen than Dany was. He is therefore as evil ir not more evil than here.

reply

Bran's powers are vague in regards to what we see him do on the show, but I'm guessing that mostly, Bran can only observe past and future events, and somehow knows that to try to change events would cause chaos. It's like Doctor Who, except that the Doctor also cannot just change certain events in history, as it would cause paradoxes and so forth, and that show even goes so far as to say that the time/space continuum and the universe could be destroyed by such meddling.

The one time he inadvertantly influenced past events was when he warged into the boy in the distant past who would become Hodor, and he and his companions barely escaped with their lives, except for Hodor. So really, his powers can be risky at best, so he needs to be careful with what he says and does in regards to what he sees as the Three-Eyed Raven.

reply

Well as you state he clearly isn't completely against changing the future he sees as he did that Hodor... and that was just to save his own skin, but here he sentenced thousands to die just to make sure he became king. You just proved he was more evil than Dany... at least she was just ruled by her emotions and reacted to her close friend being killed... Bran was a cold calculating sociopath that saw method of ruling them all and allowed it to happen without saying a word. Hell if he had simply kept quiet about Jon being the real rightful heir to the throne it could have resulted in Dany not going bat shit crazy but he couldn't keep quiet on that one... No Bran was the master manipulator of everyone and used his powers for evil.

reply

What I mean to say is that the Massacre of King's Landing was a major event in the timeline, was going to happen no matter what, and would've caused utter chaos as I described, if those events were to be changed or even prevented by Bran warning anyone. You're only criticising Bran because the way things happened suited him, but didn't he say he didn't WANT to be king? Or was that Jon? And it could've so easily have gone the other way.

reply

Jon said he didn't want to be king, Bran said it was the reason he came there, which implied he knew they would pick him which indicated he knew all that was going to happen and played them all like fools. If there was another episode we would probably see him standing up walked to the window and saying its good to be king before he slaughtered a few dozen babies just to show the world he was an utter dick.

reply

King's Landing HAD to happen. You don't understand the implications of meddling with established and fixed events in the space/time continuum.

reply

Dany had to say something and present some kind of vision to sidestep the fact that she was losing her mind.

reply

what is the brief outline provided by the author?

reply

I'm sure he'll have provided one to the TV writers, unless he's as lazy as I've heard he is.

reply

how can I make my pitch in accordance with that outline if I dont know what it is?

reply

How do I know what the brief is? It looks like no-one does. It seems to be known only between GRRM and D&D.

reply

but how can anyone "both keeping with the brief outline provided by the author " if neither of us know?

that's your stipulation for anyone who wants to answer "what would you have done?"

reply

If you were GRRM, what would you have done? :)

reply

I havent read the books, so I only know what I would've done based on what I had seen before the past two seasons.

reply

Easy. In keeping with what the writers have given us, I would have killed everyone during the battle of winterfell. Most of the cast would have died there. Save for the few plot armored mains.

In their final moments, danys dragons swoop down to collect the cast who are in their final breaths and carry them off to kings landing before the white walkers finish them off.

In one last plea to Cersei to ready kings landing for the incoming assault, the cast arrives at the city gates with a defeated army and just the handful of them.

Cersei being Cersei, laughs at the cast for having come to kings landing without an army, declines their plea, and has them all murdered. Their final words before their deaths is how big of a mistake she's making.

They die.

Cersei now very happy with herself, thinks she won the game of thrones with no one left in her way to take it from her.

She then looks out on her balcony and watches as snow starts to fall. She holds out her hand in confusion and then witnesses the army of the dead on her doorstep.

The white walkers obliterate everyone in the city destroying everything in their path.

The final shot is of the throne in the dame cold desolate dilapidated state it was in during danys vision in season 2.

The camera then cuts to black.

reply

Are you really that RETARDED?

reply

Yes

reply

Oh, OK. I'm just saying, it's rather a downer.

reply

Yeah. That's the fucking point moron. That's game of thrones. All the strife and bloodshed that everyone went through fighting for the throne, was all for nothing in the face of an existential threat. Too preoccupied with power that their lives didnt matter. That's what makes it so beautifully poetic.

reply

Many people wouldn't like that, a sizeable percentage of the population, in fact. What are you going to do, tell them to go fuck themselves?

You can't please all of the people all of the time.

reply

>many people wouldnt like that
>you cant please all of the people all of the time

THE FUCKING IRONY!

reply

What I would have done...

After Jon confronted her , Dany realised the error of her ways esp to the people that she wanted to liberate. Dany agreed to pardon Tyrion but hope Jon will take the throne as Dany felt that she is unfit to rule after the needless destruction she had caused as her emotion got the best of her. Jon affirmed that he wont want it , Dany destroyed the throne with Drogon fire replying " no one should have it then". Dany decided to return to Meereen with her unsullied and any remaining Dorathkis that wanted to return. Tyrion is freed but is no more the hand, managed to convince Jon to be the king with the option to abdicate in the future for a better candidate. Jon is then named king of Westeros after his parentage is revealed to the public as Dany sail back to Meereen. The North became independant at Sansa request and Arya set sail to explore the west.

One thing that has struck me is that a lot of it could have worked but it would've been over the course of several seasons..GRRM may have given them broadstrokes to work from and they didn't bother at all this season to fill in the blanks.

Let's just take the last episode..Tyrion is imprisoned and Jon goes to visit him knowing the truth but is in denial..Tyrion guides him to what only he can do and he goes and does it in the very next scene..WTF?
There should have been lots of tension built up and issues to overcome the Dothraki and the Unsullied and Dany and Drogon and Jon grappling with his decision..The threats to Jon and his family and the North should have been tangible.
This one thing alone should have taken a season along with Dany's descent.

In fact, the war with the NK and the war with Cersei should have both played out over the course of a season each. Everything has happened too easily.
That's the biggest problem with this season is all the shortcuts..

And while I don't really care for Bran as King ..I guess it's ok for Jon to be free of it all but hate that he gets ostracized and banned..And would would the Dothraki and Greyworm and the Unsullied really go gently into that good night without a hitch..Not on your life.

reply

I would have made the battle of Winterfell two episodes. Troops would have been stationed inside the castle with cavalry on the sides. Artillery would be stationed inside the castle or behind any troops and actually used. It would be a great battle resulting in the deaths in everyone that died on the show, but also including Brienne while saving Jaime, Tormund, Gendry who saves Arya, Grey Worm who dies lighting the moat, and Sansa who has Tyrion kill her so she is isn't ripped apart by zombies. Tyrion is about to kill himself, but the battle ends. Sam stays in the crypt and kills some zombies defending his family; he barely survives. Jon's dragon and the undead dragon duel while Jon is able to enter the forest. This results in the death of Jon’s dragon. In the forest, the Night King kills Theon and then speaks to Bran telling him that he is here to eradicate all life starting with you.

Jon arrives and duels the Night King and is easily overmatched. The general and other walkers do not interfere. The Night King is about to kill Jon when Tormund comes to his aide. Both Jon and Tormund duel the Night King who kills Tormund and just before Jon is killed, Arya comes out of the forest behind the Night King who grabs her, but she is able to stab him with the dagger which kills him and all the other walkers.

Dany pushes for the armies to assault King’s Landing. They travel south gathering troops along the way. All of the Dothraki are killed and few unsullied remain. Bran stays in Winterfell since a Stark must remain in Winterfell. They surround the city, but Dany in her quest for power, orders that they begin to lay siege. Jon, reluctantly keeping his word, orders the armies to start the siege. Varys warns Tyrion and Jon about Dany. As the siege begins Dany while on Drogon destroys the Iron Fleet killing Euron in the process. After the gate is blown open, the army enters and Jamie is able to slip into the city. It is a slaughter and the bells start to ring. As the bell tolls, Cersei sends an order. As Drogon is perched on the wall, there are scorpions stationed along the wall to the Red Keep that fire arrows at Drogon. The arrows explode with wildfire. Drogon is injured, but is able to get away. Dany enraged, begins to destroy the city. Sandor confronts The Mountain and both are killed. Jamie is able to reach Cersei and she tells him she loves him. They embrace and he kills her; telling her that she is an evil woman. The keep collapses and he is killed as well.

Post battle: Varys confronts Dany and tells her that he cannot support her. She then has him executed by dragon fire. Jon confronts Dany who questions why she killed so many innocent people. She tells him she loves him and he tells her he loves her, but she is mad and he stabs her as they embrace. Jon is devastated. Drogon flies in and mourns the loss of his mother. He flies away with Dany’s body.

Jon, heartbroken, travels north to live amongst the wildlings. Arya travels west. A council of Bran, Tyrion, Bronn (as ruler of Highgarden), Sam, Yara, Davos, and a few other lords is formed to rule the land.
