So Jon’s Story Arc Finale....

Was to live on the other side of the wall with the wildings? How the hell that wall got rebuilt is total BS, but besides that it’s obvious he abandoned the castle to live in the woods the free folk.

Not bad, after all why not? There’s nothing for him to “officially” do at Castle Black & let’s face it all that stuff was nonsense, “ You can’t father children or hold titles, etc”. He didn’t take the black again, he was just sent to the wall to be spared. He left & is now living life on his terms, such as it is. That’s my understanding of it anyway, what say you all?

reply

Wall wasn't destroyed. Just a hole made at East watch. Most of it, including castle black was standing still.

I agree however that he's never coming back ( that's the long look back on the gate shutting forever for him)

reply

That's the way it looked to me...and probably exactly what he wanted al along.
Not bad at all.

reply

Pretty much this. I mean, it looks like whatever was left of the Free Folk were waiting for him there. They all went north of the Wall to start a new life with John the leader of the Free People. After all, there was no need for the Wall any longer with a truce with the Free Folk and no more White Walkers.

Also, did you catch that there was a shot of a green plant growing in the snow? Did that symbolize it was going to warm up north of the wall?

reply

That was my take with the shot of the green plant. Winter is over and it's probably gonna be a paradise up there.

reply

Summer is coming!

reply

Yes, they had to banish him from the Seven (now Six) Kingdoms. As long as Jon never goes back there won't be a problem. Sansa and Bran knew what they were doing when they sent him up there, the Night's Watch no longer has a purpose.

Do you think their seasons will become regular (like ours) now that the influence of the white walkers is gone?

reply

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm thinking. It'll be a new world up there.

reply

John will become king of the far north.

reply

Yes it does appear that way kingswood. Looks like he already is a king of some sort to the free folk. They sure were happy to see him.

reply

Wall wasn’t destroyed, just a chunk near East End is gone.

Yes, and he knew that he would go north of the wall while he was still in Kings Landing, when he told Tyrion that they would never see each other again; not because Tyrion couldn’t make it there, but because Jon knew he wouldn’t be there. Great ending for Jon - that’s where he should be...

reply

Maybe Egret has a cousin....

reply

Yup

reply

Once the unsullied and Dothraki sailed away, Bran could just officially disband the Night's Watch as there is no need for it, which would provide a de facto pardon for Jon

reply

I liked it. Jon is free now and can live life as he chooses. I think he enjoys the fact that he can get away from all the bs in the seven kingdoms.

reply

Yes! He never wanted a part in it anyway. Fate kind of threw him into that situation.

reply

I agree but I think a lot of people miss all the clues about Jon from the start to the end, he never wanted to be a leader; he joined the night's watch for a way to find himself in a way and not to be always called a bastard, but his core beliefs and ethics came from Ned Stark to always do the right thing. He killed Danerys for the threat that she was to the people and his punishment was actual fitting to theme of the story and if you recall what Tormund said to Jon last week's episode that your heart is in the north, that was a clue to me that Jon will return to the North but it happened unexpected sentence of punishment.

reply

Why WOULDN'T he prefer that to living almost like a prisoner guarding the wall with the watch?

He liked the wildlings so his fate seemed fitting to me. Honestly, so did that of the other surviving characters.

Some people wanted one more bloodbath I guess, or something, I don't know.

reply

Never said that he wouldn’t now did I?

Think the whole setup was done on the downlow, “Hey Jon as punishment you have to retake the black, go to the Nightswatch & man the castle, ‘wink, wink’”

In other words, go & do what you want, you’ve earned it, have a nice life. That sort of deal. Of course the major price that’s being paid is separation from his family which is gonna hurt but hey he’s free. Freer than most now.
