What purpose does the Nights Watch serve now?

The White walkers are dead and the wildlings are allys. What exactly will the nights watchmen do other than freeze their balls off and wish someone would rebuild moles town.

I presume the Night's Watch is officially disbanded. Or they must be, since Sam is now dressed like a Maester, which means his vows to the Night's Watch no longer matter. And since he's 50% of the surviving members...

Of course, it makes absolutely no fucking sense to have Sam in Maester's robes, because he dropped out of Maester school in the first quarter, and he's got a wife and kid and a stepkid, and he never really wanted to be a Maester, and if his vows to the Night's Watch have been rescinded then he's the heir to Horn Hall and the Tarly lands. DO THEY THINK WE DON'T REMEMBER THIS SHIT??? Goddamn worthless season 8 writers.

They are going to turn the north into a winter wonderland park and the Night's Watch are going to operate the rides. The Wildings will work concessions.

they're going to prank Thenns

They will certainly rebuild Mole's Town

I suppose they will shovel snow, chop firewood and frequently engage in trade with hookers...a guy could do worse!

The white walkers were defeated before, during the Long Night, but they eventually came back. The Nights Watch would serve as a look out for them in case they started coming back again.

And yes the "Free Folk" are allies now, and certainly it will stay so with Jon and Tormund in charge, but I'm sure once those guys are gone, it will only be a matter of time before they start fighting again.

There's no Night Watch..
Jon's going North of the wall to live with the Wildlings..

Yeah i was gonna say the same thing, like their entire purpose was to keep the wildlings and white walkers out, there is literally NOTHING to keep out now, the White Walkers are gone and the Wildlings are ally's. Are they legit just gonna stand around cold and keeping watch for nothing?

It looked like there were no nights watchmen there, only wildlings. And they decide to go back home, which didn't make sense to me as winter is coming. Maybe they want the freedom that comes from being isolated.

I briefly thought that because the Night's Watch couldn't possibly exist anymore, the whole Jon will go to the Night's Watch was just a ruse to get Grey Worm to release him.
