is GOT set on earth?

Like hundreds of thousands(millions?) of years ago like LOTR

it seems funny to me that all the obsessiveness of GOT and LOTR and no one seems bothered exactly when its set on earth or even if its not on earth..

reply

Nope. But it's loosely based in the War of the Roses, in XVth century England.

It's obviously set on an alien world that evolved very much like earth, except the seasons last a lot longer and the continents are completely different, and extra lifeforms like dragons evolved, too. The various length of the seasons also points to the sun that the planet orbits having fluctuating solar intensity.

you just spoiled tonight's twist. Jon Snow walks along the beach and finds the Statue of Liberty.

reply

And Arya discovers America, or runs into Floki somewhere in Iceland.

reply

Of course! It's set on the other side our flat earth.

The world of Westeros is located 75,000 light years away in the Gamma Quadrant, taking place in the present day of our earth year 2019 AD.

The star that provides light on Westeros, changes in intensity at random intervals, sometimes weakening to the point where it ends up providing a winter on Westeros that lasts an entire generation, or as short as a few months.
