I still can't believe how absolutely terrible this episode was. I've been depressed all day because of it. They pretty much highhandedly ruined the series.

Stop being blinded by hype like a fucking idiot for a second and think about what you saw. 8 years of build up to the Great War only to have it end rather anticlimactically in 1 episode, 3 episodes before the finale. Not to mention the poor production quality of said episode. What about that does not suck?
