Sam tearful about his fathers death

I thought he would pleased by this.

reply

Sam ain't that kind of person. His father protected the rest of the family, and his death puts them at risk.

reply

He seemed more upset about his brother than his father.

reply

Yes he was brought to tears over his brother, which was heightened right after the news of his father.

I wouldn't say he was tearful, but he was saddened to hear of his fathers death. I don't think Sam hated his father, though he was hurt by how his father treated him and Gilly. If anything Sam probably spent most of his life thinking he was a disappointment as a son and it was his fault that he didn't meet his fathers expectations. None the less, Sam isn't the kind of person who would celebrate someone's death, especially as gruesome of death as it was.

His brothers death on the other hand did bring him to tears. Aside from that he probably had a better relationship with his brother, but his brother died liked a dutiful son at his fathers side, refusing to bend the knee. And now the only person left lord over his family's home was him, and he didn't believe he was worthy to do so.

He has at least one sister. And there's precedent that women can inherit castles/titles (Alice Karstark, Lyanna Mormont). So probably, if Sam doesn't want it, his sister gets it. Or maybe it could be given to Little Sam.
