Will Jon tell Dany

or keep it secret to prevent any Iron Throne drama from distracting everyone before the Night King shows up?

reply

He'll have to in order to get all the North bannermen to unite behind them. They obviously weren't thrilled about him having bend the knee to a southerner and some were even refusing to report to Winterfell to fight for her.

reply

No way he will tell her, or anyone. He needs to marry her to get his banner men to fall in line. He'll have to imprison Sam to keep the secret.

reply

I doubt that he imprisons Sam. Would he imprison Bran too?

reply

He could just have his tongue removed.

reply

Yes, because Sam doesn't know how to write.

reply

Hands are also removable.

reply

Of course this will become known at some point in the season if only for the sake of creating drama and discord.

reply

Since they've gone cheesy and have Sam trying to break up Jon and Dany by pushing Jon's rival claim (which will clearly be solved by a wedding and a promise to co-rule), it's not Jon's secret to keep.

Sam is in a mood to tell everyone and make trouble, and he probably will because this is a plot line that will have to be stretched out for a couple of episodes at least.

reply

Nah, I don’t think he will. He’s too good of a friend to Jon for that & as upset as he may be at the moment some part of him understands what happened & appreciates Dany’s blunt honesty.

reply

Are we going to have time for a wedding? I agree it's an obvious solution.

reply

Why wouldn't he tell her... remember incest seems to be all the rage in royal families. All the arranged marriages in a land with so few royal families they would have been boinking relatives of some sort for a long time... maybe not as close as auntie boinking nephew... but hey it isn't as bad as brother and sister.

reply

The incest problem could be solved by just ending the romance. I think he could be worried that she will flip out, think that Jon is trying to steal "her throne" and withdraw her armies and dragons from the North.

reply

While it might be shock to her to begin with it would explain why the dragons are so open to him, as to whether she felt threatened it would all be a question of how power hungry she is.

reply

I don't understand why you think the incest is even a problem. Targ rulers keep it in the family with incest. This is how they do things, much like how the Egyptian Dynasties kept their lines pure. It is known.

The only way it's a problem is if she could bear his child, the child might be the next mad king. But since she's barren that's not an issue.

reply

Dany grew up knowing that she was probably going to marry her horrible brother, she'd have no problem marrying a nephew instead! No, it's Jon who will have a problem marrying his aunt, even though he grew up in a world where it's normal for cousins to marry. He'll have to be forced to marry the woman he loves, because he's a dope and won't see the big picture, and what a bad idea it is to have rival claimants for the throne kicking around.

Danerys will see the big picture, TexasJack, and the big picture is that the Dead are coming, and if the living fight among themselves they die, and that a wedding will put an immediate stop to this little kerfuffle. She'll find a way to drag him to the altar, probably by asking the Starks to drag him there.

reply

I don't think Jon will want to tell her but he's too honest not to.
I don't think Sam or Bran will tell her..and I don't see Jon punishing them for the truth.

I don't think her reaction will be.."hey, Let's get married"

Sam and Bran planned to tell Jon last season, if you remember, before Sam heard about his family. He didn't tell him to be spiteful.
He told him because he needs to know. And he would be a better leader.

reply

Jon is a lot like Ned, if they have secrets it would be for a good reason like Ned keeping Jon's identity a secret to protect him.

I think Jon will eventually tell her, but initially he wouldn't to keep the peace between them but he would also start avoiding her which will eventually force her to confront him about it.

reply

Initially no. I think he will stop sleeping with her and will stop being affectionate because as a Stark, he would be uncomfortable with the idea of sleeping with his aunt. So his coldness and avoidance of her will prompt her to confront him, which will lead to the Revelation.

reply

That makes sense.

reply

He's not a Stark. He's Aegon Targaryen.

reply

He may not have the name, but he has the blood and the upbringing.

reply

He's the son of Lyanna Stark, and a member of the Stark family, even if he doesn't carry the Stark name either way.

He's cousin to Arya, Sansa, and Bran, as well as their foster-brother. He could legally marry Sansa or Arya since cousins marry there, but that's not happening! Betcha someone suggests it, though, just to squick out of the audience.

reply

I don't see how he cannot.

Obviously he's not going to keep sleeping with her, now that he believes she's his aunt. She'll need an explanation.

reply

You think the good old "It's not you, it's me" excuse won't do it?

reply

I don't think the show would allow it. They going to have Jon avoiding her like a CW character? No, I think he'll feel he has to tell her when he ends their relationship.

Which was a high point for me, I'm glad the reveal came now, so their stupid relationship can be over and we can concentrate on the action.

reply

Why wouldn't "the show" allow it?

It's GRRM's creation, the show is an adaptation of his vision. If his vision is that they marry the show isn't going to go in a different because of modern taboos today against incest.

reply

I mean, I don't think they will have Jon avoiding her like in a teen drama and not telling her why.

The foreshadowing was already there. Varys saying it won't last. I don't think they would have such a scene if Jon and Dany are endgame or something. Honestly, I don't even know why they put them together for two episodes if they had no intention of moving the relationship forward. I guess they feel some fans (women) need them to show relationships.

reply

Ah. I see what you mean. I didn't think about the foreshadowing bit, but you're right that scene wouldn't have them talking about what they thought would be best if it didn't foreshadow a breakup.
