Arya

She’s my favorite by a mile, followed by Brienne of Tarth. What a shame that Arya rejected the opportunity for Brienne to be a mentor to her, similar to Ziyi Zhang’s character in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon rejecting Chow Yun Fat’s tutelage. I will miss both of these dignified, honorable, admirable warrior women. I am almost certain that they will both die. I hope that they both receive the glorious, heroic deaths that they richly deserve, and that their legends are sung throughout all the remaining ages of Westeros. Both actresses have done Yoeman work in bringing their characters to life.

reply

I truly hope Arya doesn't die. She's my favorite character!

reply

Then you have good taste, and good sense!

reply

Arya's my favourite main character. LOVE HER!!!

The Hound is my favourite overall character.

reply

Theres a chance that Brienne will, survive, marry Jamie, and be queen of Westeros, because Jamie is Cersei's heir.

But of course, it's a very small chance.

reply

I would love to see that. Oh, that would make me happy.

reply

Likewise! Oh, to see Jamie's face as he's crowned while knowing how monumentally unworthy he is, and Brienne's face as she reaches over to hold his hand, and assure them that she'll keep him from fucking any more relatives, maiming any more children, and accidentally starting any more massive civil wars!

But that's a really unlikely outcome. Remember Dany's vision of SNOW ON THE IRON THRONE.

reply

I love Arya too. What makes you so certain she will die?

reply

Because I’ve learned that there is too much disappointment in life.

I hope that I am wrong in this case.

reply

She has run afoul of the rules of the Faceless Men, in a big way. I think she will be killed by them as punishment.

reply

Well, I don’t think that the Faceless Men want to kill her. What would have stopped Jaqen H'ghar to kill her even before she left the House of Black and White? Maybe it was my imagination, but I think I saw a faint smile on Jaqen’s face when Arya walked away from him, and it’s my interpretation that it meant: "She IS no one now, whether she knows it or not."

I think Aryas will survive but leave on a ship to see "what’s west of Westeros".

reply

I hope you're right. Maybe Gendry could tag along.

reply

Oh, you don't take power from a Death Cult and just walk away, the Many-Faced God will be back to claim Arya for his own one way or another!

However, he and his avatar Ja'Quen may approve of Arya going North and doing lots of killing, so they're letting her have her head for the time being. But it can't last.

reply

The thing is: When Jaqen ordered (or rather, allowed) the Waif to kill Arya, he seemed disappointed.
But there was no disappointment, or sadness, or anger, in his face when Arya turned her back on him. Nothing at all to imply that he’s going to punish her.

That makes me believe that Arya, whatever she may think, is doing *exactly* what he wanted her to do, whatever his motives are.

reply

There was DEFINITELY a smile in the shadows around Jaqen’s mouth when she walked away. There’s a magic about Arya; she charmed even Tywin—and the bloody Hound. Most people seem to want only good things to happen to her.

reply

I don't think the Faceless Men want to kill her either. Jaqen looked as though he were proud of what she had become at that point. Let's face it, if anyone was going to kill her...THAT guy could have killed her right then and there!

reply

She's the one I've been rooting for since I read the first book. I hope she lives and becomes queen of the north.

reply

I love it when posters whom I admire share my sentiments, sslssg. She has so much love, wrapped inside so much pain.

reply

I really don't think I'm worth any admiration. But Arya kicks ass and at the very least I think she deserves to live.

reply

How about a little higher on the power charts. Wouldn't it be something if someone steals a face and is sitting on the Iron Throne at the end of the series!!!

reply

I feel like I read somewhere that GRRM had said that Arya would survive. That could just be my faulty memory though. It doesn't exactly sound like something that GRRM would actually do.

reply

He has said his wife threatened to strangle him if Arya ever died, as she was her favorite character.

That being said, he's not writing any of the storylines anymore so who knows!

reply

She said that she'd leave him if either Arya or Sansa were ever killed off.

But my guess is that was while the series was ongoing she didn't want to see her favorites absent from the narrative. All bets are off for the finale when most characters probably will die since that's when the story ends anyway.

reply

You think the wife has his body in a freezer in the basement? Is that what you're suggesting?

reply

Agreed, I think she is fantastic
