Did season 7 completely neuter your enthusiasm for the show?

Only me? Oh well. The warp speed and anti-subtle narratives really rubbed me the wrong way. And seeing Baelish go out like that....no thanks.

Flame away ;(

Agree 100%

Yes it did. I will watch it still nevertheless, but I’m not that enthusiastic about it as I used to be.

The first 3 seasons were absolutely sublime, and are, hands down, the best television I've ever watched. The suspense and build-up was phenomenal. Every single creative talent that came into creating those 3 seasons was operating on all cylinders.

You could really tell the discrepancy in quality after season 4, in my opinion. There just wasn't enough quality content to continue maintaining the show in a similar trajectory.

Of course I will still watch it and try to get as much enjoyment as possible, but I view the series through a different lens now.

Probably went from a 9-9.5/10 up to season 3 to around a 7ish now, maybe less depending on how critical you are with the inconsistencies.

The warp speed might be forgivable if the payoff is worth it. But I very seriously doubt they have a great finale planned. Probably just a big dumb battle, then the blonde messiah wins. Yawn. So many more interesting things happening in the first 4-5 seasons. Then it went to shit

reply

They went a bit too quickly in Season 7. Yes, it was a little refreshing to see things happen so quickly, but then it was quickly realized that it's not Game of Thrones when it happens like that. I hope Season 8 tones it down a bit, but six episodes and tons to wrap up, even if each episode is 60+ minutes long, it's gonna be full acceleration.

I agree that it felt like they could get anywhere in no time... and that didn't feel right... there were stil some strong moments a long the way... but diffenitely the worst season so far (even though it was still okay)...

It feels like the writes/producers know the endgame... but without the books they have no idea of the interesting side plots and just are racing to the finish line.... which isn't the GoT way...

reply

It's not only you. The show is as dead as "arrested development"

reply

No, it did not..
I'm jazzed for the final season..
I was glad to have a few pay offs in 6 & 7 since I'm expecting the finale to be more bitter than sweet..

It couldn't just continue to always be the cruel and selfish always winning the day..I was almost beyond investing in anyone anymore and had begun to watch with a cold detachment when the tide started to turn..
And the time thing...yeah, not so realistic but wasn't anyone else a little bored of some of the endless wandering and getting nowhere. Years of it had started to feel like filler so I'm glad they finally fast forwarded through it..
