how do you think Dany and Jon will react?

When they find out their shared genetics?

I don't think Daenerys will be that bothered about it to be honest. I think she'll view the blood tie as a reason Jon will be even more loyal to her. Plus, the Targaryens are known for being incestuous. In the books, I remember there's a part where her inner monologue refers to that she'd always assumed she'd someday marry Viserys, so it's just a normal way of thinking for her.

Jon will be the one likelier to be a holdout I think.

I'm getting a feeling that one or maybe even both of them will not survive next season. So if that transpires, they may not even get a chance to find out.

reply

I agree.

I think she'll be fine with it, because she was brought up with the idea that marrying a sibling was okay so what's a nephew, and I think she'll also realize that his claim to the throne would be superior to hers if it were ever widely accepted. So she'll want to marry him because she loves him, and to eliminate a potential rival.

He will be shocked because he doesn't like the idea of marrying relatives, but he'll marry her anyway because he loves her and the sky is falling so he'll follow his heart for once in his life. And yeah, I don't see both of them making it to the final end credits.

Assuming they live long enough to find out, I think Jon will get past it. But I think instead of it being him following his heart, it'll be more about securing an alliance so his people are more secure. I don't think Dany would necessarily demand that of him, but I think he'd feel it was the best/smartest thing to do. But I've never been huge on them together either.

reply

You know, I think that's the reason Jon will get past it.

reply

Yeah I think Dany will be fine with it, as nearly her entire family line already comprised of incestuous relationships.

Jon may hold out a little bit at first, but I think their relationship will be fine either way.

reply

I think Dany would be more bothered by the fact that their relationship means Jon has a stronger claim to the throne than she does.

reply

Well, yes and no. Yes, in dynastic terms he's got a stronger claim, but in practical terms he doesn't, because his birth is a huge secret and can't be proven. Even if Sam, Bran, and Howland Reed stood before all the Lords of Westeros and told the tale of his birth, well, nobody gets made king on the word if three people (especially if one seems crazy).

So if Danny fnds out, shell want to marry him. Both to eliminate him as a rival, to bring him his unprovable due, and because she's got to be looking for reasons to marry him. Any straight woman would.

I'm wondering though if more people suspect than we are told. Not KNOW FOR SURE. I don't think anyone outside of Sam and Bran know for sure -- even Howland Reed wouldn't necessarily know about Jon's legitimacy for sure -- but I'm beginning to wonder if there were (and are still) people in Westeros who, if the word got out about Jon's true parentage would say, "You know, that makes a lot of sense."

People who thought it really out of character for Ned, of all people, to father a bastard (discussed multiple times in the show). Or people associated with the Dane family who may have been suspicious when Ned shows up at their house with a newborn baby right after killing Arthur. And people who may have thought it odd that two members of the Kingsguard stayed at some remote tower just to protect the crown prince's mistress after said crown prince was killed when they would have had an obligation to swear fealty to the new king.

Again, I'm not saying that anyone other than Sam and Bran knows for sure (except maybe Howland Reed). And I'm not saying that anyone would have suspected anything right away. But I do think there are people in Westeros who would not be surprised if the news got out.

There's a BIG difference between saying "You know, that makes sense" and "You know, I must take up arms to depose both the incumbent queen and the pretender with invincible dragons, because this deserter from the Night's Watch has a better claim by right of birth. Well, probably.".

And that's the political reality that faces anyone with a claim based on birth alone.

It won't bother Daenerys much but it will have a big impact on Jon coming to terms with the fact that he's a Targaryen and not the son of Ned Stark.

My guess is he'll part from her but still be loyal to her, but after a life threating incident or battle Jon will go back to her, he'll knock her up and by the final episode she'll die in childbirth.

The Targaryen child will grow up to marry the son/daughter of Cersei Lannister.
