Am I missing out? Haven't watched this

Am I missing out? Haven't watched this show...

I'm not into the whole fantasy genre... You know the ring lord movies, hobbit, etc... But I have been hearing that this show is better for years now...

So, now that it is coming to an end, is it worth my time to watch this? Would you reccommend it if you weren't already invested in the series?

I wasn't a fan of the fantasy genre either. Either in film or literature..I still haven't watched The Lord of the Rings movies or the Hobbit etc...although I may some day give them another chance..

I watched after the 1st season ended (talked into it by my brother) so I was able to binge it before season 2. Being able to binge helps to get a grasp on the characters if you are totally unfamiliar with the story. You have 7 seasons to binge. Much easier than waiting week to week..year to year.

I was hooked myself after watching the first season. The fantasy element is very much in the background at the beginning. In fact, most of the characters themselves consider these elements as myth or things long extinct. You discover these revelations as the characters do.
The characters are very well drawn and fully realized. Some are good and noble and some are evil but most are some shades of gray. You may find a character you loathe at the beginning becoming someone you root for later on. People change and are shaped by their circumstances and the events that shape the story.
Except for a few sociopath/psychopaths that just get worse and worse.

The plot of 7 people from distinguished families fighting for the Throne sounds pretty simple. But it's a lot more complicated. There's a lot of conniving, game playing, manipulation and back stabbing but there's also those that always struggle to do the right thing amid all kinds of tragedy.
There's lots of sex, war and fighting and death and lots of metaphors to the world we live in today.

I would watch again and would recommend it .
The best thing to do is try season 1 and see what you think. I would definitely give it more than 1 ep.

Definitely watch the show.

Stay away from the boards until youโ€™re caught up. We have at least one member here who likes to post spoilers right in the thread subject.

Yep, you're missing out.

The show is based on a compilation of real historical events and is also a study of different types of political leaders. It shows what methods leaders use to gain power, hold on to it and how they eventually lose it because of certain weaknesses. It is very much a "Game of Thrones".

I also recommend the book which I just began reading. George R. R. Martin's writing style is poetic and amazingly vivid.

Don't let the genre discourage you from watching. A few times, I've watched movies that I enjoyed based on a recommendation even though I hated the genre.

I spent 15 years avoiding The Lord of The Rings Trilogy, I just had to no interest, about 2 years ago I finally watched TLOTR Trilogy....It was the greatest experience I've ever had watching A movie or series of films...

after watching LOTR, I wanted to watch something else similar, that is when I discovered Game Of Thrones, I knew absolutely nothing about the show, never read the books(Hell I didnt even know the show was based on books), but due to how much I loved LOTR, I gave Game of Thrones I try....

It took almost until the 6th episode of season 1 for me to really start getting interested, I remember watching episodes 1-5 and just not getting hooked, But sometime around episode 6, I started enjoying it,caring about what happened and enjoying the characters, By the end of Season 1, I was hooked completely, I watch Seasons 2 through 5 over the next month and Then have watched Seasons 6+7 Live...

to answer your question, NO WORDS CAN POSSIBLY DESCRIBE what you are missing if you haven't watched Game of Thrones...

Again this is coming from someone who knows nothing about The Books and is not a big "Fantasy Fan"...The Characters and Stories Arks that go on in GOT is unlike anything I've ever seen, There are at least 12 major characters that all go on their different storylines and Paths, that completely hook you, The story Arks and characters eventually come together and meet but it takes nearly 6 seasons

GOT also has some absolutely incredible action sequences, Battles, and Special effects

There are also moments in the series where you get "The Ultimate Payoffs", there are moments where story Arks that have been building for 5 seasons finally culminate and simply give you the audience the ULtimate Payoff

GOT is IMO the best TV Show ever made...My favorite is Dexter...but Game Of Thrones quality, technically and Story wise is unlike anything before

without exaggerating, Rating on scale from 1 to 10 if you should watch GOT....I would literally say 100!

Episode 6 is like when you realize a pawn can do more than just block and fight other pawns. Episode 10 is like when you see the pawn reach the opposite side of the board and get replaced with a queen.

Thanks for all of the different perspectives... ๐Ÿ‘

I suppose I will give it a try later this year... Perhaps during the comicbook movie season... ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I do like the fantasy genre, and I like this series. Don't want to get your expectations up, though, since you don't care for the genre and because, if you are like my brother, he prefers going into something with little or no expectations and being pleasantly surprised rather than having it built up and being disappointed. :)

I have personally found it to be an enjoyable show so far.

The highest budget ever per episode of a TV show. Just that makes it worth checking out.
